Favorite Pink Floyd Song

Obviously (see above) I have…

Too many to chose from, but I’ve gotta go with…

Echoes

Amen! It took me forever to figure out the “You’ll Never Walk Alone” part in there. I guess it was done by the crowd at a soccer match. It’s a brilliant counterpoint to the song.

Apparently, the crowd chanting “You’ll Never Walk Alone” is something of a regular happening at soccer (excuse me, football) matches in Britain. Why a song from “Carousel” got associated with a soccer match is beyond me, but there you have it.

Can anyone let me know whether Dark Side of Oz is urban legend or amazing writing?

Another vote for Time from a very long shortlist. Great intro (except for the alarm clocks) and a perceptive lyric.

After the “You’ll never walk alone” you can hear the crowd chanting “Li-ver-pool” (ie the football team). The reason it became associated with football was that Gerry and the Pacemakers released it around the time that one of their home town teams, Liverpool, started to become very successful. The fans would sing various pop songs, such as “She Loves You”, but that one took especially well. I do like “Echoes” off that album.

I probably listen to “Atom Heart Mother” more than the other albums; every song on that (including the title track and “Alan’s Psychedelic Breakfast”) deserves a mention.

When I first heard “Piper at the Gates of Dawn” I was obsessed with the whole album, but especially “Bike”.

Comfortably Numb at Earls Court Stadium in London, 1980, The Wall tour. Blow me away!

Im with Plnnr. One of the best guitar riffs ever. Plus, I love the Bb to C chord change.

I refuse to pick. I like nearly every single song for one reason or another.

Inconclusive Scroll to bottom of page for link.

My favorite is the one about the lunatic being in his head–the melodic part at the end is so beautiful “And all that you touch,…”

They are my “desert island” band, so I can’t pick. But I have a major thing for Wish You Were Here and Careful With That Axe, Eugene.

Careful With That Axe Eugene, Obscured By Clouds, Astonomy Dominie, and Learning to Fly.

And I’m with AskNott, Several Species of Small Furry Animals Grooving In a Cave With a Pict, is a good tune.

Excellent head music!
