Favorite Quotes from the Daily Show

My fav quote: long ago they had something on about Sinatra, and had a fake quote the attributed to him, something like, “The party was a mothery gasser, till some nowhere Clydes and Kellys showed up and queered it into Dulls-ville.”

For some reason that stuck with me.

Why are you standing on my foot and what is that arrow doing in the back of your head?

Can someone please fill me in about Ann Coulter’s appearance on TDS? I’ve only heard vague bits and pieces, but apparently she went over about as well as Rush on Letterman (who was booed by the audience, hostile to Dave, and got eventually got mocked even by Letterman himself).

Did she say anything particularly outrageous or did her reputation precede her?

I can’t remember, exactly, but she said that liberals hate all non-Islam religions, and hate America…Additionally, she said that there are bad Republicans, but there are no good Democrats. That’s what got the boo, IIRC.

Jon made a crack about how the liberal/conservative battle is over, and the new battle is moderates vs. extremists. I don’t think Anne got it. I don’t think she’d seen the Daily Show before.

And what did Geddy, Alex and Neil do to offend Letterman?

I’ll never forget the follow-up interview that A. Whitney Brown did with the hermaphrodite that was running for congress. After he lost the following exchange took place(from memory):

Brown: So, you’re going to lose.

Canidate: I’ve already lost.

B: You’re a loser.

C: I lost but I’m not a loser.

B: But you did lose…

C: yes…

B: Making you a loser.

C:(tearfully) I’m just an ordinary person, who deserves to be treated with dignity.

B: But you did lose.

C: yes.

B: and that’s something they can never take away from you.

It was one of the most tastelessly mean-spirited interviews that I’ve ever seen on TDS. But for some reason, I can’t help but laugh my ass off at it. Go I miss A. Whitney…

Which reminds me of the only line I remember from him specifically - “Hello, I’m A. Whitney Brown. Someday I hope to be the Whitney Brown.”

I remember a Lewis Black piece where he was speechless because of a Starbucks located across the street from another Starbucks.

Lewis Black on the Bosnia incidents (paraphase): “All I see is White people shooting other White people. How are they telling whose on whose side?”

John Stewart reports about the Afghani game in which they toss a decapatated goat’s body around. At the end “Is there anything in that country that isn’t totally [screwed] up?”

I miss the head popping scene in the opening credits :(.

I was in the audience for the June 24 tapering. When they did the piece on “Big Retard” and threw up the picture of all the politicians in those white helmets with the chin straps we, the audience, laughed for so long he actually had to stop talking and so one of those shrug at the camera things. It was too great.
And for all you who were wondering, the show is taped in one take. I can’t believe that he could keep from laughing that long.

Oh, and Canthearya, I hears ya!
