“Gimme Shelter.” All other Stones songs pale in comparison.
From their “psychedelic” period, “Dandelion” is pretty good.

For some unknown reason, “Shattered” has always stuck with me. I have been to about 4 or 5 of their live performances on the sole basis of seeing them perform this song, to no avail. I guess they don’t want to ruin it for themselves.
I have to agree with “Gimme Shelter” Merry Clayton’s singing complements Keith Richard’s playing on that song. My favorite song to sing along with would be “Honky Tonk Woman”. My third choice would be little known gem called “No Expectations”

Shoo sha doobie…shattered, shattered!
Gimme Shelter is number 1, far and away.
That opening is haunting.
Waiting on a Friend is also good. (Another great opening.)
Paint It, Black, Moonlight Mile, Street Fightin’ Man, Satisfaction, Wild Horses, Sympathy for the Devil, Play with Fire and Angie round out my top ten.
I’ve never liked a Stones album, because no Stones album has more than 3 good songs on it. But… add up 3 songs per album, multiply it by 25 years… and you have a LOT of great songs. <y favorites:
My top 4 fav’s are
Paint It Black
Gimme Shelter
Wild Horses
Sympathy For The Devil
Couldn’t say which was the most favorite though.
It’s a weird one, but I was always told what a classic record Exile on Main Street is, but when I actually got it, I could never get that interested (I might try again tonight :)). However, the opening two songs - ‘Rocks Off’ and ‘Rip This Joint’ always blow me away, before I’m tempted to ‘rip the needle’.
HenrySpencer.
1)Moonlight Mile
2)Wild Horses - though I prefer the Flying Burrito Brothers’ version
3)Time is on My Side
4)Torn and Frayed
5)Ruby Tuesday
I really like that one where the guy goes “ooo oooo oo.” You know the one I’m talking about, right?
I think it’s a toss-up between “Gimme Shelter,” “Playin’ with Fire” and “Waiting on a Friend.”
Honorable mention goes to “Under My Thumb,” just 'cos it drove my mom up the wall. When you’re a child of the '90s with '60s tastes, it’s hard to get that effect with a song you actually like.
“Gimme Shelter”
It just might be the best rock
song EVER
Can’t believe I left “Gimme Shelter” off of my list. That’s certainly one of their best.
It’s interesting how often some of the Stones more mellow songs like “Wild Horses”, “Moonlight Mile”, “Angie”, and “Waiting for a Friend” keep turning up. For such a hard rocking, misogynistic, devil worshiping band, they sure had a good gentle side.
Any opinions on best albums? My top three are EXILE ON MAIN STREET, STICKY FINGERS, and BEGGAR’S BANQUET, probably in just about that order.
I can’t believe that I forgot all about Satisfaction. However, it’s been so overplayed that I rarely enjoy listening to it anymore.
And Ruby Tuesday is great. The lyrics are so strange. Well, I guess that goes for most of the Stones’ songs.
I like “Ruby Tuesday” the best.
I can not begin to tell you the number of times I had had people sing “Angie” to me!!
1.) You Can’t Always Get What You Want (But Sometimes You Get What You Need)
2.) Stray Cat Blues
3.) Brown Sugar
4.) Wild Horses
5.) The Girl With the Faraway Eyes
6.) Miss You
7.) Tumblin’ Dice
8.) It’s All Over Now
9.) Waiting for a Friend
10.) Yesterday’s Papers
Paint it black, Sympathy for the Devil and of course,
the Girl with faraway eyes.
“‘You know, you always have the Lord on your side.’
I was so pleased to be informed of this that I ran twenty red lights in His honor. Thank you, Jesus. Thank you Lord.”
“Tumbling Dice” and “Start Me Up.”
It’s odd, when “Angie” was released, I hated it. I really like it a lot now. When “Star” was new, I liked it. I hate it now.
