I was hoping for this category.
Was just thinking about the Rolling STones songs the other day.
What is your absolute favorite?
My choices, and it has to be a tie: Are Honky Tonk Woman
She’s My Little Rock&Roll
- Heartbreaker (Doo Doo Doo Doo)
- Paint It, Black
- (tie) Monkey Man
Sympathy for the Devil
The Stones could have kicked the Beatles’ asses any day of the week.
I like “Jumpin’ Jack Flash,” but only because I liked the movie with that title. I’m not much of a Stones fan.
Why Don’t We Do It In The Road (White Album). Stones are lame.
But they didn’t. Nice of them.
Not Fade Away, for now.
Hmmm. Probably Gimme Shelter.
Or maybe Sympathy for the Devil.
Scratch that. You can’t always get what you want.
Or Paint it, black.
The hell with it. Too many to choose from.
Not too many songs by the Stones that I don’t like, but I’d have to say Honky Tonk Women, Brown Sugar, Satisfaction are among my top favs.
Sympathy For The Devil
Without a doubt.
IMHO.
Snark said
Oh! So you’re the one!
And then Snark said
And then X-files said
And then Milo knocked Snark’s and X-files’ heads together, Three Stooges style.
Most of my favorites have already been mentioned, but I like 19th Nervous Breakdown and Shattered, and their cover of Not Fade Away is great (tho not as good as the original).
Wild Horses
and
Gimme Shelter
‘Sympathy for the Devil’
All other Stones songs suck.
I wish they would retire already.
Hey, X-files
I know what you mean….gees, that Keith Richards – some overrated arse.! And Charlie, average drummer, very average. And Jagger !, couldn’t put a lyric together to save his life.
Now, if they wrote a few tunes about aliens invading earth, now your talking. Maybe about unexplained events, wow. Even the same song, maybe about a conspiracy theory – that would be great – and just keep doing the same thing time after time, after time, after……
Gotta go with Sassy - Wild Horses and Gimme Shelter, definitely.
I’ve always loved the Stones (Beatles - blah, puke, ralph
:()
Sadly, they now hold bittersweet memories. One of my best friends (yeah, a guy whom I’ve never had sex with but thought about - snicker, yeah you know what thread I am talking about. . . .) jumped through hoops and called up his connections (he was a newspaper featured reporter) to get us floor seats at their last Utah concert (Feb 1999). We went and had a great time! I’ll always associate him with the Stones.
He died last March.
Another pointess and mundane piece of Diane trivia - I was missing an English credit my senior year of highschool. English was my first period class and I really enjoyed pot and shrooms back then, if you catch my drift. I flashed my baby-greens at the teacher and convinced him to let me make up the credit (thus saving my life from the wrath of my parents had I not graduated.)
He gave me an assignment of a 5000 word essay on a subject of my choosing. I chose the Stones, got an “A”, and came away with more knowledge of the band than they themselves probably know.
My vote for semi-neglected gem is “Hang Fire.” I thought I’d heard all the “good” Stones songs on the radio, and then I heard that one.
My favorite would have to be Angie. For some reason, that song just gets to me.
Awright! Stones fans! (Ignore those Beatle-fan wusses.)
My top ten:
[li]Gimme Shelter. Best rock song ever written in my view.[/li][li]Waiting on a Friend.[/li][li]Paint it, Black[/li][li]Sympathy for the Devil[/li][li]Moonlight Mile[/li][li]Beast of Burden[/li][li]Street Fightin’ Man[/li][li]Dead Roses[/li][li]Satisfaction Great song. Would be higher, but it’s been over-played.[/li][li]Play with Fire. Not sure that’s the correct title…[/li]
Hey! Some Beatles fans can like Stones music…probably because they are secure in the knowledge that the Beatles are superior to the Stones in every way…but at any rate
**
You Can’t Always Get What You Want
Wild Horses
Paint it Black
Missing You (I think. “…Cuz I’ve been missing you. I’ve been walking after dark, walking in the park…people think I’m crazy” Or something like that)
Get Off of My Cloud
As Tears Go By
**
Phewy on all of you. The Beatles AND the Stones are kicking.
Fave songs:
- Paint It Black
- Wild Horses
- She’s A Rainbow
- Mother’s Little Helper
- Let’s Spend the Night Together
All of these (except for Wild Horses) are on Rolling Stones Big Hits Vol. 2, a must-buy.
Also, if you like Dave Matthews Band too, there is an excellent duet between DMB and the Stones for Wild Horses, floating around Napster. Good luck finding it though!
Dead Flowers
Gimme Shelter
Wild Horses
Stray Cat Blues
Midnight Rambler
