Favorite school house rock song?

(Dang it:)

Three Is a Magic Number (as performed by Blind Melon)

Victim of Gravity w/The Tokens, Figure 8 w/Blossom Dearie, and Rufus Xavier Sarsaparilla.

But my favorite is still 3 is a Magic Number.

Ah, but here’s the PUBLIC Schoolhouse Rock version of Nouns.

“Conjunction Junction” and “I’m Just a Bill,” obviously.
“Suffering until Sufferage”
“Naughty Number 9” is really the only multiplication one I have any memory of at all.
“VERB”
“Interjection”

and I really like the Skee-lo version of “Mr. Morton” it’s less chirpy. And makes it very easy to remember that “Mr. Morton is the subject of our sentence, and what the predicate says, he does.”

I’ve seen that one before, but the parodies of Adverbs and Conjunctions were new to me.

But this may be the best SR parody ever (audio only).

Exactimundo!

Verb! That’s what’s happening!

Hell, I keep that on my iPod. The funkiest SR song.

Interjection!

Unpack your adjectives

Figure 8
*
Figure eight is double four
Figure four is half of eight
If you skate
You would be great
If you could make a figure eight*

We were just talking about this yesterday!
Oh- Mother Necessity and Elbow Room

Oh, phooey-- all of them!!!

Verb! That’s What’s Happening!
Little Twelvetoes - I mean seriously, they tried to teach kids base 12 for goodness sakes, what’s not to love about that?

All of the History ones (please don’t make me choose between them), and Interjections!

Interjections
Show excitement
And emotion…

Darn, that’s the end!

Definitely the “Preamble” Song from the America Rock selection.

My sister and I get crocked and sing that at almost every family party.

Also “No More Kings”. I still sing that one every once in awhile in the shower.

Kind of along the same lines, The Fifth Dimension sang a version of the Preamble to the Declaration in the 60s? Maybe 1970s? It’s really awesome. My sister and I know that one by heart as well and love to belt it.

I gotta get in with all the Figure Eight lovers. That song breaks my heart. Wu Tang used a sample on one of their rhymes, and it had a very eerie effect that I loved…“If you skate…upon thin ice…you’d do well…if you think twiiice…before you make another single moooovee…”

Me, my husband and my daughter really love Rufus Xavier Sarsaparilla, the pronoun song.

That is one of our favorites, but we love them all.

ETA: How can I forget 3 is the Magic Number? Love that song so much. And love what De La Soul did with that one too. Hip-hop community loves School House Rock. I just remembered Method Man used some SHR too.

Why aren’t they aired today? Seems to me that kids today need them just as much as we did. I loved Conjunction Junction, Interjections and I’m Just a Bill…

Do they even have Saturday morning cartoons anymore? I don’t have kids and I haven’t been awake before 11 on a Saturday in a long time. If there’s no “kid’s programming block” on Saturday mornings anymore, there are really no natural time slots for Schoolhouse Rock anymore, either.

That one actually bugs me, because it propagates the false-but-commonly-held notion that the Pilgrims were the first English arrivals. Where’s the Jamestown cartoon?

If you’re going to do educational cartoons, get the history straight.

For me, math: “Three is a Magic Number”; grammar: “VERB”. I never got so much into the history or science ones.

For parodies, Conspiracy Theory Rock

Oh Lord, that’s my new earworm! Thanks a lot!

They still show some kids programs on Saturday mornings. There’s a show called The Emperor’s New School, even though I like The Emperor’s New Groove (the movie), I don’t love the show. I think they also show programs from the Disney Channel, like That’s So Raven.

Schoolhouse rock would still be a good thing to play between shows. IIRC within the last 5 year or so they were showing it.

I’m directing this as a stage musical (Schoolhouse Rock), in Minneapolis, in the spring with a mixed cast of teens and adults. I can’t WAIT. Some of the old favs like “I’m just a Bill”, Interplanet Janet, Unpack your adjectives, the Preamble, Three is a Magic Number, Do the Circulation… are all in there…

Oh! I would SO go to that if I lived in the area!
