Fall, because sometimes winter gets too cold, plus it’s too close to spring, which leads to summer which I hate. In the fall you know you still have a long way to go before it starts heating up, and there are fall leaves and lots of rain, which I love. Also, back to school for my kid. Yay fall.
Oops!
There are only two seasons. Football, and off-season. I prefer Football.
Summer is the best. Spring is my second favorite, because it’s the longest possible time before another winter arrives.
I ski.
In the summer, you can water ski. Followed by a nice brew-ski.
Springtime. Beautiful, sunny, and cool. Although winters here in California are awesome (rain!).
That thread’s a couple years old. Carry on.
In Texas, the four seasons are: Mud, Hail, Furnace, and Football.
Using the traditional definitions, I prefer Fall. I like being on the lake and used to prefer Summer ('cause I was out of school then). As I age, I’m less tolerant of the heat, and we get back the lakes after school starts (the Wally’s disappear after Labor Day).
Fer example, here’s a picture from Thursday. Note the missing crowds.
I checked fall, but pretty much my favorite season is whichever one that’s just ahead. So right now I’m all giddy about fall moving in, and come Dec I’ll be looking forward to real winter (we don’t generally get much winter here in SE TN), and then I’ll be really looking forward to spring, and then anticipating summer too.
Summer love doesn’t last very long anymore though - I just can’t stand the humidity any more. It might be different if I lived on a coast, but I doubt it.
I am beginning to think that is the general trend - especially in this poll.
Although I suppose fall is pretty with turning of colors of leaves, and perhaps a bit cooler in warm climates, I am really surprised this is number one on the poll.
I have always found fall to be depressing; leaves fall, plants die out, it gets dark earlier, it starts to get gloomy and damp and darn right cold, hinting that winter is around the corner. As someone who grew up in Illinois, fall was fun for about a minute and then it was like cloud of depression plopped on top of you.
Even though I live in hot Las Vegas, I have always loved summer. Give me the bright, long, sunny summer days - hanging out by the pools or lakes or oceans (depending where I lived), wearing shorts and t-shirts every day, picnics and outdoor BBQ’s, lazing in the shade with a lemonade or iced tea or beer, fresh fruits and vegetables, quiet nights with crickets in the background as you sat outside into the wee hours…ah yes, give the the good 'ol summertime anytime!
I should probably run this poll again in, say, January…my guess is that Spring and Summer will suddenly start fighting for the number one position.
Still, I have found this poll quite interesting - and yes, I think it is because people do like change. And as mentioned, Fall can be fun for a minute. However, if I ever won the lottery, you can damn well bet I will be spending Fall/Winter in warmer climates - I don’t have any problem spending Thanksgiving, Christmas and all of January and February in Hawaii, or the Bahamas, or any lush area that allows me to wear flip flops to go outside for the day.
Thanks for all of the input on this poll! Keep 'em coming if you have any other comments on the current winner of the poll, or want to tell me how I am missing the fun of Fall.
