Some coworkers and I were discussing our favorite television shows and how they were written. I’m 61, or manager is 60, one coworker is in her low 50’s, the rest are way younger. We got around to lines that were iconic, lines that, if spoken, pretty much ID’d the show.
I got the idea to do a poll but I haven’t seen a lot of episodic television in the last few years, so constructing such a poll for me would be difficult.
What are your favorite, iconic, lines from TV? I know what mine is, but I won’t say yet as I don’t want to skew potential answers. (One hint though, it’s a ten word sentence.) When/if I get enough responses that seem to be repeating I’ll do a poll.
So, what is your favorite or most iconic single line from television?
My mind immediately goes to catchphrases. I wouldn’t say any of these are favorites, per se, but they should be iconic enough that I don’t need to identify the show they’re from.
“Get out!!!”
“Not that there’s anything wrong with it…”
“No soup for you!”
“Whatchoo talking 'bout, Willis?”
“Dy-no-mite!”
“Exxxcellent.”
“D’oh!”
“To the moon, Alice!”
“You’ve got some ‘splainin’ to do…”
“Norm!”
For a single line, I’d have to go with “The avalanche has started. It is too late for the pebbles to vote.”.
Babylon 5 had a lot of other great quotes, too, but most of the best ones are longer than a single line.
EDIT:
Ninjaed by Oakminster, but his loses some of the punch when you separate it from the several before it. And Delenn’s badass speech there is still a little overshadowed by Ivanova’s “Who am I?” speech.
