Favorite Talk Radio Programs

Hell, I’m going to stick my neck out for all of y’all to take a whack at it and mention

Rush Limbaugh.

Of course, there is always the Motley Fool radio show (once a week, iirc) and my personal favorite, the Jim Roane show (sports.)

I’ll stick my head out as well and mention Neal Boortz.

Phil Hendrie, Rush Limbaugh, Michael Savage and a local host here, Greg Knapp.

Let’s throw a mention for Clark Howard as well.

Talk radio is the surest Sign of impending Bad Things. I don’t personally believe in gaudy theological OR historical excesses but talk radio pushes even my generous limits.

Most of it is pure dreck. It’s probably no worse than most television but I feel more trapped in my car–which is where I usually listen to radio anymore. It’s probably ripe, primary source material for something sociological but damned depressing. Dr. Laura, Rush, Howard Stern, Bob/Mike/Tom/In The Morning…hand me a razor to slice my throat now.

But when car-bound and blowing through the miles…

Bruce Williams on investments and finances.
Car Talk–irreverent, occasionally useful
Garrison Keillor in minisculeamounts; he’s too self-worshipping for words but sometimes the funky supporting acts are hilarious
gonzo, teensey local stuff: it’s fun, informative and by-gum TRAVEL to catch snippets of “so-and-so’s in the hospital”, “Got a dusty Nordic Track I’ll swap for canner”, etc. That’s still real people talking versus prepackaged idiocy.

Paul Harvey is always good. I’m surprised no one’s mentioned him yet. (Or I just missed it)

I have become a little bit sensitive lately to the whole idea of talk radio since I am forced to listen to Mush Limpdick every frickin’ day for three, count 'em, three hours.

The owner of the business at which I work insists that that show be on everyday he’s here. I like my co-workers, and more’s the pity, I really like my job, but every morning I feel like I have wandered into a cocktail party from hell. It’s a party where I get trapped by some close-talking, simple-minded, political-analyst-wannabe nitwit who proceeds to give me his lunatic opinion on every subject under the sun without me being able to get a word in edgewise. The owner claims to find RL “funny”. I agree with this but I mean “funny” peculiar not “funny” ha-ha.

On the other hand I get to listen to Phil Hendrie in the evening when the owner’s gone. Tuning in to here Phil rip the snot out of talk radio for three hours is a small compensation, but I guess you gotta get your yuks where you find 'em.

Ah…all through high school I used to listen to Roy Masters’ How Your Mind Can Keep You Well. (http://www.fhu.org) I got to the point where I knew exactly what Roy would say to any caller in any situation.

Probably explains a lot of why I’m so strange today.

Especially when I switched to Art Bell afterwords.

The two shows I hear most often lately are Tom “The Troubleshooter” Martino, and Phil Hendrie.

Phil Hendrie is, of course, my favorite. But he’s had a stick up his ass lately about fansites devoted to him. He’s been pulling a “Metallica” with all online content, even though it’s broadcasted over the air for free every day. :stuck_out_tongue:

Oh well…Phil can be an ass–but that’s staying within the content of his character, anyway.

I was wondering how long it would take for the thread to degenerate to this  I wonder if it’s a hate crime?

Hey, I’m still at work so I’m a little jangly…

Mega-dittos  to:
Wait, Wait, Don’t Tell Me
Car Talk
What Do Ya Know?

And what’s the NPR show about words and such?

Hey, my tongue is firmly planted in cheek.

although, I kinda like the guy…

I love car Talk. I have also been uite fond of Bob and Tom as well, for the drive to school. Then, there is Dr. Laura. I find myself listening to her just so I can say how much I hate her, and disagree with most of the things she says.

Gonna have to go with:

Bob and Tom
Prairie Home Companion
Car Talk
What Do Ya Know?
Wait, Wait, Don’t Tell Me***

Yeah… those are my favs.

You might be thinking of Says You, take a look at http://www.saysyou.org and see if it rings a bell.

Opie and Anthony; Don & Mike. What can I say, I like shock jocks.

CBC’s “Ideas

Truly rivetng – includes the Massey Lectures!

Imus in the Morning (Damn hard to find, though)
Car Talk
Wait, Wait, Don’t Tell Me
Rewind
BBC World Service News

Oh, please. Don & Mike are too boring to be “shock” jocks.

My life can be measured by what Talk Show I was listening to at the time. I love talk radio. But not whispering NPR Middle East Update talk radio…just, goofing around, gossip, news once an hour talk radio.

Howard Stern
Buzz Kilman
Steve Dahl

Steve Dahl…is god. He was Stern before Stern and even Stern has conceded that. They have a great rapport those two.

I used to listen to Kevin Matthews all the time and now he’s gone. Danny Bonaduce had a great show here in Chicago, and of course Johnathan Brandmeier. I used to call in to his show all the time and do voices!

This American Life
The Next Big Thing

NPR has many good programs, but the above two are my favorites, by far. The sublime humor of This American Life is a type that I’ve been craving for a long time. The Next Big Thing is kind of like Real People for smart people.

The only talk radio I listen to is Art Bell. I listen to the previous night’s show via the internet at work. It’s my greatest shame.
