Favorite Tom Cruise movie

Tom for all of his weird association with Scientology and his views on relationships, he’s still a pretty good actor, and I have enjoyed most of his movies.

So which one is yours:

Endless Love
Taps
The Outsiders
Losin’ It
Risky Business
All the Right Moves
Legend
Top Gun
The Color of Money
Cocktail
Rain Man
Born on the Fourth of July
Days of Thunder
Far and Away
A Few Good Men
The Firm
Interview with the Vampire
Mission: Impossible
Eyes Wide Shut
Magnolia
Mission: Impossible 2
Vanilla Sky
Minority Report
The Last Samurai
Collateral
War of the Worlds
Mission: Impossible III
Lions for Lambs
Tropic Thunder
Valkyrie
Knight and Day
Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol
Rock of Ages
Jack Reacher
Oblivion
Edge of Tomorrow
Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation
Jack Reacher: Never Go Back
The Mummy

I think that Taps is my all time favorite from this list.

The only ones I haven’t seen are Collateral and Lions for Lambs.

I’ve only seen around a dozen of those (the most recent is Minority Report) and have strong memories of only three or four. I’d have to call either Risky Business or Legend my favorites, with Top Gun as the runner up.

Edge of Tomorrow is my favorite. May not be his best, artistically speaking, but I found it the most entertaining.

Top Gun. He is named after me in it.

My favorite, overall movie wise is A Few Good Men. His performance in Tropic Thunder was a fun surprise. Taps is an excellent movie and was my favorite for a few years. And though I had a crush on Timothy Hutton, I could see what an outstanding actor TC is. I don’t think I’ve ever seen him give a bad performance, though he may have been miscast (looking at you, Rock of Ages).

Your real name is Maverick? My real name is Goose!

Your name is Maverick?

I’d lump all the Mission Impossible movies as my favorites. They are like Bond movies - each one has something stupid, but overall they are really good.

I haven’t seen all of them, but I’d put Days of Thunder at the bottom of the ones I had.

If you never have, watch the credits sequence of DoT and Top Gun back to back, Not only are the movies basically the same plot, DoT ripped off practically shot for shot the opening of TG.

Edge of Tomorrow. Nothing beats seeing TC getting killed over and over again.

I’m a big ol’ Dustin Hoffman fanboy, so I’m biased in favor of Rain Man; but, even so, I have to admit that Cruise is doing all the heavy lifting in the thankless supporting role of “regular guy we can relate to as he shows a lot of realistic emotion while trying to sound like the voice of reason” – instead of his usual “star of the movie showing mere confidence in his borderline superhuman ability” schtick.

Not a big movie fan, but I’ll say Valkyrie for the snappy uniforms.

Rain Man, hands down.

***Top Gun ***was good; so was Valkyrie. But Rain Man really got to me on a personal level.

*The Color of Money, A Few Good Men, Magnolia. * Also *Eyes Wide Shut *is better than its reputation, but I wouldn’t include it in my Tom Cruise shortlist.

I love so many of his movies, it’s a tough call. Favorite movie, maybe Edge of Tomorrow. Favorite Tom Cruise performance, either *Tropic Thunder *or Magnolia.

I haven’t seen too many Tom Cruise movies, but going through the list *Magnolia *sticks out.

My top two are Risky Business and Vanilla Sky.

I’ll be an outlier and choose The Last Samurai, with Edge of Tomorrow a close second.

A Few Good Men followed by Minority Report

Edge of Tomorrow. It’s got something for everyone.
Love Cruise? He’s great in it.
Hate Cruise? He dies. A lot.

The Last Samurai is #2. Not very historic, but fun.

I can’t remember any of the plot differences between the MI movies except the first one.

Yes. Top Gun made my middle school years hell but I grew to like it after a while. I hear they are doing the right thing and just naming whole upcoming sequel after me too. It took over 20 years for the jokes to start dying down the first time. It is time to kick it up a notch. A person can never hear enough jokes about Goose and how their mother didn’t like them. Countless strangers try to show off their comedic chops by telling me versions of those as soon as they meet me.

To make things worse, I accidentally named my daughter after another major character in the movie without thinking about the implications. No, it isn’t Hollywood. It is an actual girl’s name.
