Favourite American Candy

I need help from all the American candy-lovers out there.

2 close friends of mine have made four or five trips to your country, and while they love many things about the US, they have recently had cravings for some American candy. I have found a store which stocks foreign foods, including a reasonable variety of American ‘junk’ foods and I’m planning on giving them a basketful of American candy for Christmas.

The problem is, I am not sure what things they’d prefer, so I figured I’d pick from the most popular candy choices the US Dopers mentioned here. The only thing I’ve heard them mention is that they love “Herschey’s chocolate”

So post your favourites here  Thanks

Hershey’s sucks, in my opinion. BUT, pretending that there is no American candy stocked in shelves everywhere there, these are what I’d recommend:

– Twizzlers
– Skittles
– Snickers (I don’t like them, but they’re popular)
– Milky Way
– M&Ms
– Airheads (they aren’t incredibly common here either, so I wouldn’t be surprised if they aren’t available)
– Jelly Belly jelly beans
– Pop Rocks!!!
– Hershey’s kisses
– Gummi worms (including the ones that are opaque and are sweet and sour at the same time)

Whut about Circus Peanuts? Twinkies? Ho Ho’s?

As for Hershey’s there’s the candy bars, kisses, hugs (kisses with almonds).

100 Grand bars? Do you get Wonka candies down yonder? Sour stuff is really popular with kids. Dunno why, but 'tis.

Three Musketeers
Mounds
Almond Joy
Butterfinger (my personal favorite)
Reeses Cups? Reeses Crunchy Cups. Reeses Sticks. There’s one other Reeses item I can’t remember.
Twix
Zero
Clark Bars
The other big thing is variations on the popular candy bars. There’s Milky Way, and Milky Way Dark. Nestle Crunch, Nestle Crunch with White Chocolate, and Mocha Nestle Crunch.

M&M’s come in the usual plain and peanut, but also peanut butter, almond, and caramel.

Mr. Goodbar! It’s my favorite Hershey’s candy bar. Look for the yellow wrapper.

(BTW, it’s not American, but do yourself a favor and get some Lindt dark chocolate truffles. Mmmmm…)

On second thought, Mr. Goodbar may be M&M/Mars, not Hershey’s. Whatever, it’s still good.

Another vote for Jelly Bellies
Also Toffifay-caramel cup, nougat, hazelnut and milk chocolate

Strange coincidence…My favorite is Goo-Goo. They are made in the South and it is hard to find them everywhere.

Are those the things that have some sort of nut in them and come in a gray (or is it brown?) package? If so, all the Wal-marts around here sell them, and you can’t get much farther from the south on this coast.

I don’t think I’ve ever eaten a Hershey Bar that wasn’t given to me. They’re not very good. The ones with almonds are a little better, but still not great. Ironically Kisses, and especially Hugs are so much better despite using the same chocolate.

Anyway, my favorites are: kit-kats(the “holiday” white chocolate ones are even good too), reeses peanut butter cups, carmello bars, almond joys/mounds, and 3 Musketeers.

The Snickers and Milky Way “Christmas” style candies are 100% better than the regular candy bars. There’s Milky Way reindeer and Snickers soldiers (I think), but they’re really good. I’m partial to Junior Mints and Skor bars, not sure if those are available abroad.

Hershey’s Special Dark Chocolate
Milky Way Midnight
Peanut M&Ms
Peanut Butter M&Ms

Popular (and good) candy bars -

Snickers
Milky Way
Three Musketeers
Mars
Hershey w/almond (or plain)
Mr. Goodbar
Reeses P’nut Butter Cups
Baby Ruth
Butterfinger
Almond Joy
Mounds
Payday

Yes, Pop Rocks and Airheads. They can be kind of hard to find, but they’re worth it. Don’t give your friends Circus Peanuts unless they’re really close friends.

I’ve seen a lot of stores sell big bricks of Hershey’s, in its many different flavors - avoid the cookies n’ cream.

Reese’s Pieces, Hugh?

Peppermint patties

An orgasm in aluminum foil

Kit-Kat. This has been my answer since about 1975.

Payday bars!!! Salty peanuts stuck to fudge. what manner of genius came up with that?

and Tootsie Rolls (love that plastic taste).

stay away from the chocolate!

never ate any i liked.

and the US versions of mars, snickers, twix, kitkat, M&Ms, Milky way etc are just nasty. really gritty fake chocolate.
prefer the british ones.

like gummi bears…but round here we like our Haribo starmix.

“stay away from the chocolate!”

STONE HER! BURN THE WITCH! HERETIC! SHE IS UNCLEAN!

Many American candy bars use Chocolate as a dressing. Ain’t no one trying to make the Snickers bar chocolate on par with any Swiss chocolate, so take it easy, bashers of American candy.

Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups are a hit among many.

Snickers is #1 in sales.

Twix. Can’t miss.

Peppermint Patty: America’s version of a dinner mint (BIGGER and Better!)

M&Ms - a staple of every candy dish in homes every where.

Milk Duds, Sno-Caps, JuJu Fruits: staples of the American movie goer diet!

She means, I think “stay away from American chocolate”. It’s certainly very different in texture and taste - once you’ve tasted Belgian or Swiss, you’ll know what I mean. I can’t stand Hershey’s. Bleaugh.

Charleston Chews. Especially if put in the freezer for an hour before eating.
