Favourite ice cream flavour?

I bought a pint of Ben and Jerry’s Chocolate Therapy. After the week I’ve had, it sounded like something I needed. And I was right! Best all around though is some Häagen-Dazs plain old chocolate. It soothes the soul.

Although during peach season in Colorado I like a waffle cone shoved with (good!) vanilla ice cream with layers of peach slices. MMmmMMmm.

I don’t know the technical difference, but oh gelato is incredible. I’ll take just about any flavor. When I was on vacation in Italy, we had gelato twice a day. Because we could!

As for ice cream, it all depends on mood, but mint chocolate chip is a perennial favorite.

Little Nemo is right about Purity.

But my favorite ice cream flavor was from Erikson’s Ice Creamery in Maynard, MA. I am not sure if they’re still there, or not, but they’re the only place I know that ever made a flavor called Chocolate Mint. Not Mint Chocolate Chip, but chocolate with a mint overtone. Ambrosia.

Kythereia I can’t believe you described exactly what I would have said in the freakin’ OP.

That’s just freaky.

Absolutely!

(Even though I despise that stupid spelling, as well as all derivatives of it, like “phat”. Whoever thought that up can “phuck off”, along with all the leetspeakers…)

Despite the spelling, it’s… just… so… goooey goooood! Yummmmmmmmmmmmmmmm!

Definitely hokey pokey flavour

I work in a chocolate store which sells gelato, so I get to try a lot of gelato. I can’t really tell the difference between our gelato and ice cream, though, to be honest. It’s not like most gelato, and it comes in big buckets like ice cream. So we just call it ice cream most of the time.

I love our Tiger Butter - vanilla bean ice cream swirled with chocolate and peanut butter.

I also love our Dulce de Leche - caramel ice cream with a caramel swirl, and Chocolate Caramel, chocolate with a caramel swirl. Mint Chocolate Chip is divine, as I love mint.

I also love sorbets - lime, lemon, orange, strawberry and raspberry are my favourites.

You bunch of greedy gourmets !

For me it’s liquorice when I was in the States. Overhere they don’t make it.

Here I go for hazelnut. Seldom found in the US.
Last year I went crazy for the “summer special”: Mövenpick’s passion fruit & coconut.

Honestly, I don’t really hate the other kinds.

Passionfruit. Fruity taste and the crunch of the seeds. Tends to tie with any berry-flavoured ice cream – boysenberry, raspberry, strawberry.

I don’t know the difference, but if you’re ever over on our side of the state there’s a really good Italian market that always has about 10 different gelattos on offer. Let me know and I’ll tell you how to get there or take you myself. My son is quite fond of their spumoni.

According to this online article: “The difference between gelato and ice cream is that gelato is made of only fresh whole milk, cream, sugar and a tiny bit of stabilizer. The fat content cannot be more than 10 percent, and it contains 50 percent less air than ice cream, accounting for the dense texture.”

And according to this article: “The difference between gelato and American ice cream is that gelato has about half of the butterfat of American ice cream, so typically it’s from 5-7% butterfat. American super premium is 14% and above.”

That sounds heavenly! I love chocolate/mint combinations, but I don’t like the small, thick pieces of chocolate chip that most ice cream makers put in their Mint Chocolate Chip; I like mint ice cream with a ribbon of fudge (or some other “soft” chocolate), but I don’t want the mint taste to be overwhelming. The ice cream you describe sounds like it would be wonderful!

As far as I know, Phish (the band) pre-dates the “ph-” trend. You can despise the spelling no more.

One of my favorites from childhood that I never see by this name anymore- Dutch Chocolate.

However, even tho it’s not called “Dutch”, the basic Chocolate from Breyer’s has to be the same thing.

My favorite ice cream treat is good quality vanilla ice cream with double stuff oreos broken up all over it. Blue Bunny has a flavor with little peanut butter rabbits in it that is really amazing.

For the fancier stuff, I like:

Ben and Jerry’s Dublin Mudslide.

From Russia with Buzz is eligible to be voted back into production, along with White Russian, also one of the best B&J flavors ever. Go vote! Now!

Gold Medal Ribbon lovers unite!

Lou, the biggest difference between gelato and ice cream is that there’s no air whipped into gelato, making it much denser and more flavourful than ice cream. Check it out here.

Misnomer, I didn’t read your post. Sorry! :o :o :o

Buy you an ice cream to make up for it?

You’re asking alot of me here, Shibb . I don’t know that I can bring myself to corrupt an entire serving of the world’s most perfect ice cream with strawberries! But, just for you, I’ll try some strawberries on the side.

No seeds here (central Europe). Do I miss something ?

Perfect nick for this thread, **Ice Wolf ** !

My favorite is Cool Britannia by Ben & Jerry. It’s a vanilla bean base with chunks of strawberries and shortbread cookies dipped in chocolate. I haven’t seen it around so possibly it’s been discontinued.

I will be in downtown Tampa for a couple days in late July, but unfortunately not for happy times (I have to retake the Bar Exam). I’ll check in with you as it gets closer, since I’m always up for an Italian market and gelato!

Ben & Jerry’s Pistachio Pistachio.
