They are reporting that Favre is telling teammates that he can’t go tomorrow night. I’m guessing the Vikings are not heartbroken over this news.
I still say he could hand off to Peterson(sp?) on the first play and sit out the rest and still (technically) keep his record going
Brian
He is a man of great integrity and would not do such a thing.
We are talking about a man who cheats on his wife and sends pictures of his genitals to female reporters. Unless the definition of “integrity” has changed, I’m not seeing where that’s one of his notable character traits.
chizzuk, I’m sure that was a joke.
Of course it was.
So maybe now he can finally retire?
I wonder how high a value Favre was placing on reaching the 300 game plateau. I think he plays regardless of what’s reported and won’t believe otherwise until they snap the first ball in Detroit.
He said that there was no way he could have gone today but there might be hope for tomorrow. I won’t believe that he is sitting until he does.
No matter what we all think of Favre, he’s one tough mofo. He’s come back from some injuries at remarkable speed. I won’t believe it until I see it either although this particular injury will limit him so much he may not be able to function regardless of his pain tolerance. Even if he doesn’t make it to 300 he’s set the bar ridiculously high for anyone else to follow. I think Peyton Manning is next on the list and he’s WAY back. He’s tougher than he’s given credit for too.
Sarcasm detector malfunction. I changed the batteries. Sorry.
Peyton is at 205. Really not that far back since he’s just 34 years old. Peyton would break the record before his 40th birthday if he maintains his streak, which seems reasonable.
Peyton is going to break all of his records.
I think you’re correct. The streak though is the the one record that has a lot to do with luck. Peyton could end up needing his appendix out after all. Still, Favre’s streak isn’t quite as unattainable as it appears and QBs probably have the best shot out of any position of breaking it now that lineman have gotten so insanely big.
Luck my ass. You don’t start every game for 20 years because you’re lucky. Favre played a whole season with a busted thumb on his throwing hand once. He’s got two busted bones in his foot right now. He’s tough as nails. His streak is untouchable. It’s the single most impressive stat in NFL history.
I see a lot of coverage of this, but does anyone really give a rat’s ass about this streak? I have never had a conversation with anybody about it, ever. That’s in stark contrast to Cal Ripken’s streak, which was a BIG DEAL.
Ripken’s streak - now THAT is some overrated bullshit.
It’s luck AND toughness. In equal measures I think. Favre is lucky that he’s only had injuries he could manage as opposed to catastrophic ones. He’s also tough, so are a lot of guys, but he’s one of the toughest. Nonetheless, he’s been incredibly lucky too. Even Saint Brett says this quite often.
I dunno, that INT one will be kind of hard to do, even with Peyton’s recent performance.
Booooooooooooooooo!
Favre starting absolutely gives the Giants the best chance to win, no question. I’ll be quite bummed if he sits. I hate losing to backup QBs. (Which the Giants have a habit of doing.)
