Anyone else hear this rumor? Vikings fans, what do you think about it?
Heard it, considered it, dismissed it. What’s the point? They already have Sage Rosenfels, who will throw just as many touchdowns and just as many picks, if his performance in Houston is anything to go by- and won’t hijack the next two offseasons.
As a Vikings fan, I’d be happy to take him. I’d love to see him go back to Lambeau wearimg purple. The Vikes are really only a quarterback away from being serious contenders. Favre wouldn’t have to be great, he would just have to be a general on the field and make defenses pay for selling out to stop Adrian Peterson all the time.
I live within earshot of Vikingland and if there’s one thing all their offseasons have in common is the firmly held belief they are one player away from a Super Bowl trophy.
I heard it, it sounds plausible, I really doubt it will happen though.
ETA: I see Dio has already illustrated my point.
I’m an old Packers fan living in the twin cities and since all I can watch on a regular basis is Viking games, and they’re a rather pathetic team to watch, Favre would at least be exciting to see. I’d probably even go to a few games.
Pathetic? Who was in the playoffs last year and who sat home?
The Vikings have one of best defenses in the NFL, one of the best offensive lines and THE best running back. The only place they’re really weak right now is at quarterback.
They went to the playoffs but they weren’t that fun to watch. Opposing teams concentrated on stuffing Petersen and when they suceeded it was a slow boring game. Not like the offensive combo of Culpepper/Moss.
And wide receiver. And tight end.
They’re fine at wide receiver. They have Bernard Berrian and Sidney Rice and they just added Percy Harvin. Visanthe Shianco is also a solid pass catching tight end (now that he’s gotten over his butterfingers).
As a lifelong Vikings fan and Oklahoma graduate, I can safely say that I’ve had wet dreams about less interesting circumstances than Favre handing the ball to Peterson and running through a hole blasted open by Phil Loadholt.
I think Favre is an excellent choice for a team that needs a gritty, seasoned, never-say-die QB, and who feels they need to rack up substantially more interceptions at critical moments during the season.
Favre is a rally killing intercept throwing over the hill QB. His time is past. The game has changed and he is not part of the future.
Favre would have been great for the Vikings the years he went to the Jets. Now? I don’t see it.
It’s a shame for Viking fans, but Tavaris Jackson is just terrible. He killed them for seasons.
Just go away. Please.
Berrian is a pretty good #2. While I’ve been hearing impressed mutterings about Sidney Rice for a while, he has a grand total of ~550 receiving yards through 2 seasons. That leaves us with Harvin, who is a rookie, did not have a 1,000 yard season at Florida, and is no bigger than any of the cornerbacks he’ll be facing.
There are plenty of words that properly describe the Vikings’ wide receiving corps, but “fine” is not one of them.
Shiancoe’s okay, I guess, but he doesn’t exactly make up for the lack of a true #1 wideout.
"Dear Penthouse,
I never thought it could happen to me, but…"
I grew up in Oklahoma, and as an Adrian Peterson fan I would love it IF he was able to stay healthy.
I’d love it. It would solidify Favre in my mind as a “me first” jagoff interested more in sticking it to a GM who pissed him off than helping his team. Which is a shame because he was once a very fun player to watch (if you’re not a Packer fan waiting for that killer interception to occur). It would also solidify the Vikings as incredibly stupid who didn’t learn a single thing from the Jets last year.
I’m not a Viking fan so I didn’t offer an opinion. I used to really like Brett Favre. Although I wasn’t a Packers’ fan so much, I would root when they weren’t playing my favored team.
But I didn’t care for the things I heard about him at the Jets. If true, my respect went down for him considerably.
He was a great QB though, at least at one time.
Year, singular. And what happened to the arm surgery he supposedly maybe needed? He was definitely not healthy at the end of last year. I thought everybody decided that was the reason for his poor performance.
I don’t know about this. I like Brett; he’s an amazing athlete and competitor. I don’t think I want him on my Vikings squad, though.

[li]Yeah, we’re really shaky at quarterback. Tavaris has the ability, I think, he just doesn’t have the skills. Everyone else is an unknown, or an average choice. That said, I think we need a longer term solution than someone who’ll only make a year, maybe.[/li][li]Brett’s as much a liability as an asset. As mentioned, we’ve already got quarterbacks who can throw interceptions. Not to mention the whole question with his arm - is it worth bringing him on just to put him on the IR midseason?[/li][li]Our receivers are, well, they’re receivers. They’re average. Brett used to throw like Elway. I’m not sure the Vikings receivers are solid enough to catch what he throws at them.[/li][li]I don’t like the circumstances. I have a feeling Brett really wants to play for Minnesota only to say “fuck you” to the Packers. I don’t want him if his motivation is to rub it in their faces some more.[/li][/ul]
