FBI Search and Seizure at Trump's Mar-A-Lago Residence, August 8, 2022, Case Dismissed July 15, 2024

This was posted a couple of days ago. See Posts #3494 and 3524.

And just to repeat myself, there’s no indication in the public record so far that these phone logs are the missing ones from Jan. 6.

Sorry – I’ve been busy the past couple of day. Didn’t see them.

Although it would be interesting to know just how many call logs are missing. I mean, if the Archives go “yeah we’re missing the call logs from June 23-26, 2018 and January 5-7. 2021. Other than that, we got 'em.” That does change the odds, don’t it?

No biggie, it happens. Just didn’t want people thinking this was something new.

True enough.

Unbelievable.

Pretty sure this is why Kise was benched.

The outreach from the department prompted a rift among Mr. Trump’s lawyers about how to respond, with one camp counseling a cooperative approach that would include bringing in an outside firm to conduct a further search for documents and another advising Mr. Trump to maintain a more combative posture.

Must be tough to provide legal advice to a dude who won’t stop committing a crime in progress long enough to listen to that advice.

CNN story on same.

https://www.cnn.com/2022/10/06/politics/trump-white-house-documents-mar-a-lago-justice-department/index.html

The Justice officials – including Jay Bratt, a top lawyer in the Department of Justice’s national security division – have communicated to Trump’s attorneys that he has an ongoing obligation to return the documents marked as classified.

Chief Counterintelligence guy is involved. Probably more than just Presidential Records Act stuff.

You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.

Well done.

Yep. Nothing like giving a lawyer three million in advance and then ignoring all the advice he gives.

Mr. Trump initially agreed to go along with the advice of one of his lawyers, Christopher M. Kise, who suggested hiring a forensic firm to search for additional documents, according to the people briefed on the matter.

But other lawyers in Mr. Trump’s circle — who have argued for taking a more adversarial posture in dealing with the Justice Department — disagreed with Mr. Kise’s approach. They talked Mr. Trump out of the idea and have encouraged him to maintain an aggressive stance toward the authorities, according to a person familiar with the matter.

It doesn’t even have to be a missing call log. It’s not like call logs are impossible to duplicate.

Someone early in the thread jokingly suggested that the FBI raid Trump’s NYC residence next. Maybe it won’t be a joke.

Seemed to me a logical step and I was somewhat baffled that they didn’t. If I were under investigation and owned a half dozen different properties across the country, why wouldn’t they search them all? Especially considering some of the documents they were looking for are still missing. :person_shrugging:

This is pure conjecture:

I figure Justice wants another iron-clad affidavit before they go into any other properties, so they can avoid it looking political. It sounds like they’re working their way up to that.

That’s the best way to delay-delay-delay, which is obviously the plan. Don’t give an inch and certainly don’t work toward any kind of resolution.

The FBI/DOJ has to be able to convince a judge that there is strong evidence to support the reason for the search ("TFG has not returned all the government-owned documents in his possession, and has consistently lied about it) and that the documents are at the location they want to search (“X saw these documents at this location at this time, and there has been no evidence that the documents have been removed from the site”).

Given TFG’s personality, the idea that he has more documents stashed at several properties is incredibly plausible. However, judges don’t sign warrants based on plausibility.

Because the FBI needs evidence, specific to the position to be searched, in order to obtain a search warrant. I’ve tried to make that point earlier, but posters here don’t seem to want to believe that.

We just love the sound of your voice… (I know I do). :face_with_hand_over_mouth:

That and Trumps holdings are quite large, are they supposed to search every nook and cranny of Trump Tower? They need a specific location because it really becomes a fishing expedition if you don’t, which would play right into Trumps witch hunt theory.

You really don’t want to pull a Geraldo and find Al Capones safe empty in front of a live TV audience.

The bad thing is that method has worked for Trump all his life. I want him put in a situation where he has to put up or shut up, and can’t buy his way out with a settlement. Oh, and I want a pony too.

I believe you. :slightly_smiling_face: I’m just amazed at the number of people that must know about all these files but still keep their mouths shut. It’s not like he had the Mar A Lago files hidden away from anyone that cared to look. I’m guessing he’s just as careless with any other documents he has. The guy that delivers his McDonalds orders every day has probably seen them.

I wonder how long it will take Kise to bill enough hours to work thru his $3 million retainer while being ignored? Good thing Trump has all his supporter’s money to waste on legal advice he doesn’t take.
