I was amused to see that the employee who moved the boxes, Walt Nauta, like pretty much everyone else who works, or has worked, or been in any way associated with Trump, has now equipped himself with a lawyer. And like all other others, he’s probably going to need one.
FBI Search and Seizure at Trump's Mar-A-Lago Residence, August 8, 2022, Case Dismissed July 15, 2024
Or he received threats if he admitted it,
We already know Trump was intimidating witnesses going in front of the Jan 6 Committee.
You’re not the only one who has noticed that. Seems like everybody who associates with Trump–including his lawyers–have retained lawyers. It’s lawyers all the way down!
I read somewhere (in the process of finding a citation) that some boxes were also to be moved to Trump Tower from the WH but the plan was scrapped.
There was a stolen classified folder on display at Trump Tower’s bar, so it’s not impossible.
Hmmm, @Northern_Piper, now that I think of it could this give the FBI probable cause to search Trump Tower for other stolen documents?
This article is straight up disinformation, or at least the headline is. “Classified” is not a classification category, nor is it ever a classification marking. That is not what classified folders or cover sheets look like.
I’m assuming the quotation marks in the headline is for plausible deniability for the clickbait for that reason.
“It’s not immediately clear whether the empty folder on display at Trump Tower is a replica or the real deal.”
I don’t think so. I think it’s just really bad reporting.
Breaking:
Awesome. The order affords the application exactly as much consideration as it deserved.
whomp whomp.
Okay, color me directionally challenged. I’m having a hard time keeping track of who’s on first. What with the petitions, suits, stays, reversals. Can someone spell this out for me in a few bullet points as you would to a slow five-year old who can’t tell right from left (that last part-- I really can’t).
Clarence Thomas is sleeping on the couch for the rest of the week, at least.
Judge Canon says DOJ can’t use classified docs in investigation until reviewed by special master.
DOJ appeals to 11th Circuit
11th Circuit says the special master doesn’t need to review classified docs before DOJ can use them for investigation.
Trump appeals 11th Circuit decision to SCOTUS
SCOTUS (Justice Thomas) says 11th Circuit decision stands
Result: DOJ can continue to use classified docs in investigation and doesn’t need to show them to Trump or special master.
It’s not surprising you’re confused. There are so many different directions the case has taken, mostly by Trump, and intended to muddle the issues. Delay and muddling are really his only goals.
Well outlined by @Elmer_J.Fudd. Trump was hoping for some delay, but it doesn’t look like he’s going to get any.
The order says Thomas referred the case to the rest of the court. Does that mean Thomas could have supported Trump’s appeal and was outvoted?
I believe this was handled on the shadow docket, so we will never know. However, with as much scrutiny and pressure as Thomas has recently been under, I think even he will hide behind the full bench and at least imply he wasn’t prepared to disrupt the rule of law to the extent asked for by Trump.
The outcome of this appeal was never really in doubt. But the fact that we even had to wonder if it was demonstrates how shaky is the ground on which the rule of law is currently rested.
Thanks so much for that.
Couldn’t happen to a nicer guy.
Couldn’t happen to a more deserving guy. [As dad used to say]
Will we still get a round of Trump calling Thomas part of the deep state though?
