FBI Search and Seizure at Trump's Mar-A-Lago Residence, August 8, 2022, Case Dismissed July 15, 2024

My guess is China. Theft of technology.

So what else is new?

Why hold a press conference for that kind of dog-bites-man story?

Just because it’s not Trump doesn’t mean it’s not Trump adjacent. That’s a lot of big names for an announcement, probably not some run of the mill stuff like China stealing tech.

According to NBC, it concerns multiple cases of criminal activity and “malign influence schemes” perpetrated by (apparently) a single nation-state actor. The “influence schemes” make it sound more like Russia is the culprit, but I guess we’ll find out soon enough. There’s not a peep about it on CNN, where the news reporters seem to usually be asleep.

ETA: Live stream should be available here at 1:30 PM ET today.

I am of the completely ill-formed opinion that this is going to involve Russia, and the deliberate showing what Russians may think of our “Ministry of Justice” is our way to perform a war time act under other auspices.

Note: This was pulled out of the aether.

If this turns out to be Something, maybe it will need its own thread?

It’s getting very hard to keep up with all these dumpster fires.

Regardless of what the presser reveals – and it seems late in getting started – China has been doing its share of spying and interference in federal investigations lately:

It will. Like I said, I put it here because of the possibility of it being Trump related. Once we know, someone can start a new thread if needed.

It will, and thanks for being mindful about this. I appreciate it!

ETA: Ninja’d by @JohnT – thank you.

Given that a thread can be split out or merged in; starting it as its own thread and then asking it to be pulled into the most relevant on-going discussion might be the better strategy.

ETA: Given the delayed start, they’re either having some technical difficulties or they’re trying to build a bigger audience.

Here we go… it’s China:

https://www.cnn.com/2022/10/27/politics/trump-doj-mar-a-lago-hearing/index.html

Though Trump’s challenges to the search and seizure of Mar-a-Lago in August have been before judges in Florida, a federal grand jury in Washington, DC, appears to be handling the criminal investigation into obstruction of justice and mishandling of records, including national security secrets…

One potential resolution to the known matter the Trump lawyers are responding to in the Mar-a-Lago investigation could involve the Justice Department asking a judge to issue an order compelling the Trump team to work with DOJ to arrange for another search, according to CNN reporting.

More on the above…

Not much more. Just a picture.

They aren’t high fiving each other at least.

I looked at a larger version of that photo. Those people are in no way enthusiastic or eager to be seen with each other. They don’t want to admit that they know each other.

Small update here. Gift link to WaPo article.

One of the Justice Department’s most experienced national security prosecutors has joined the team overseeing the intensifying investigation of classified documents at Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago home and private club,

Maybe they’re getting past the “collect information” phase and getting in to the “put the case together” phase. One can hope.

They don’t exactly look like a tight knit group of lawyers already planning their next move, do they?

I liked this part:

Just two weeks ago, Raskin won a guilty plea in a case with parallels to the Trump case — a former FBI analyst in Kansas City who authorities say took more than 300 classified files or documents to her home, including highly sensitive material about al-Qaeda and an associate of Osama bin Laden.

Thanks for the link.

Glenn Kirschner recently commented on Raskin’s assignment and said it’s a clear data point indicating the DOJ is moving towards indictment. Assigning one of the most experienced national security/espionage litigators in the country is not a move the DOJ would make if they were moving away from indictment.

Kash Patel has gotten an immunity deal with the DOJ to testify before the grand jury in the documents case.

My, my, my.
