FBI Search and Seizure at Trump's Mar-A-Lago Residence, August 8, 2022, Case Dismissed July 15, 2024

And the higher the classification the more light it blocks!

I was going to mention a piece of tape, but I’m giving him the benefit of the doubt that he doesn’t want tape or a sticker on his phone during waking hours. Certainly he could just turn it around or throw a towel over it or send someone to staples to get some a standard-issue manila folder. It might work just as well.

It’s a safe bet he never tuned into NPR.

You don’t think he sits at home listening to all the episodes of Radiolab he missed while in office?

And kicking himself for the 4 years of Pledge Week tote bags he missed out on.

Yeah, it’s called moving the fucking phone.

Well that’s a mystery solved. I always wondered how people like Trump could sleep at night.

You’ve seen the light.

I think we’re being lampshaded.

Not quite. Anything printed out in the SCIF has to go through a process to remove it from the SCIF, including Unclassified printouts. Everything at least requires technical/program review and security review. Most people just re-create unclassified material outside the SCIF. It’s faster and less headache.

I agree that Confidential/Secret documents can be reviewed in an office and stored in proper container in that office, but my experience tis that material is generally transported between such outside containers, not from SCIF to an unclassified environment. I can’t comment on TS material, as I’ve never seen TS material that wasn’t associated with a particular compartment, which makes it SCI as far as treatment goes.

I’m not a big buyer of the latest and greatest, but I thought those piercing blue LED’s were largely replaced by a dark red indicator.

This is one of those times when I feel kinship with this guy as I loathed those blue lights for precisely the same reason. Stop it. Stop making me feel this way, all dirty and shit. I don’t want to feel kinship to DJT.

Fuck it, I’m getting a shower.

I have to keep a spare bedroom door shut at night because the lights on some of my network and aquarium gear are blinding.
But what’s worse is that I recently bought a bunch of USB-C cables because I needed one for my phone. I didn’t realize when I bought it that they had green lights on the end. While it’s nice for finding it in the dark when I go to bed, it’s really obnoxious when it’s 6 inches from my face. Best I can do is point it down and hope the glare off the nightstand doesn’t annoy me too much.

Similarly, my current laptop uses a USB charger. But since it’s on the side, the cable or connector would almost certainly break since my laptop gets moved around a bit. I bought some 90 deg adapters so instead of the cable sticking straight out the side, it sort of runs along the edge and I’m less likely to catch it on something and tear it out. However, the stupid thing has a light on it. And, to make it worse, the light gets really hot. Not that it’s going to burn you, but you’ll flinch if it brushes up against your leg and arm. Also, that means it turns anything sticky (ie tape) you put over the light to turn into a gummy mess.

I wish more electronics gave people the ability to turn down/off LEDs. More often than not, they’re either entirely useless or a sizeable group of consumers doesn’t have any real need for them. Like, I really don’t care if my TV is in ‘standby mode’. If the screen is off, that’s about all the information I need.

Moderating:

Let’s please take the side discussions about our personal problems with lights in the bedroom to another thread. It’s a total hijack to this one. Thanks.

Hmmmm. Do we work at the same place? Yeah, they disabled external drives, but still allowed Google Drive, etc.

Well, they “allowed” in that they warned you about it. The crap they installed wouldn’t let me hook up to my printer - it considered that an “external device”. I actually had to get a special clearance to send stuff on disk to one of my clients.

Didn’t anyone have the nous to buy him one of these:

Or even just a plain one?

Actually, it is my former place (retired from AT&T). Couldn’t use Google docs, so assume I couldn’t get to Google Drive (but could access my email, so in a pinch could email attachments of whatever they were afraid I was stealing/storing non-securely).

Blocking the light from a phone. OK… Well, when ever you hear Trump make any kind of statement you know it’s not true. So we can cross that excuse off the list.

Such a weird excuse too. Even if by some chance it is true (although didn’t Trump already say he didn’t have these things scattered all over the place?) he would be the only person on planet Earth who has ever done this. Is a blue light on his phone supposed to make it okay?

It’s the kind of excuse a small child would make, if you caught them doing something you told them not to do.

The article is misleading. In the original clip it’s not presented as an excuse. It’s a humorous anecdote presented along with the excuse, which is that it’s “not a classified folder” and “not…controlled in any way”. It’s an ordinary empty manila folder labelled “Classified Evening Briefing”.

The argument is not that, “he used this classified folder to cover a light, therefore it’s ok for him to have”. It’s that, “this piece of paper is is not classified and is so mundane that he used it to cover up an annoying light”.

The article repeatedly refers to the folder as a “classified folder” without ever mentioning that this designation is disputed.
