I’ll drink to that.
Now, about that little insurrection …

All in due time.
Didn’t he ask why we don’t use nuclear weapons?
Trump asks why US can’t use nukes
[Emphasis mine]
“Several months ago, a foreign policy expert on the international level went to advise Donald Trump. And three times [Trump] asked about the use of nuclear weapons. Three times he asked at one point if we had them why can’t we use them,” Scarborough said on his “Morning Joe” program.
You can be sure he believes that because he explicitly said so. More than once, as I recall, but most recently at the last CNN Town Hall in answer to a question from Kaitlan Collins, while waving his tiny hands for emphasis.
Wow! Just heard that on “the beat”. I may need to purchase a can of champagne…
This is going to be quite the summer.
The man was so avaricious he was willing to sell state secrets for his own personal gain.
Fooled again. I was thinking he had the papers only as bragging rights, “Lookit this cool stuff I got to see when I was President!” Any leakages were due to inept safe-keeping.
Every time I cut the guy some slack, he yanks the lead out of my hand again. Bad Don! No biscuit!
From August…
Trump was selling US secrets. That’s what I bet this is coming down to, especially if it pertains to classified documents.
Just out of morbid curiosity, what’s the most serious crime he can be charged with if Smith can show that he sold classified secrets to the Chinese or Saudis?
Does it rhyme with “season”?
Treason is a wartime offense. IANAL but I believe selling classified secrets you shouldn’t have to a foreign power would be considered a form of espionage.
“You know what we used to do in the old days when we were smart? Right? The spies and treason, we used to handle it a little differently than we do now.” Listen: Audio of Trump discussing whistleblower at private event: 'That's close to a spy'
There’s a Trump quote for every occasion. I wonder if El Cheeto will have a different take now that he’s the one dealing in secrets. Actually, I don’t wonder at all.

Yes.
The Rosenbergs are often referred to as being executed for treason, but it was actually espionage. The US was not at war with the USSR, so there was no basis for treason charges.

Treason, espionage, potato, potahto. As long as he’s staring down the possibility of capital punishment*, I’m good.
(*Yes, I know, it’ll never go that far. And I have to remind myself that I theoretically oppose the death penalty.)
Former President Trump's legal team has formally requested a meeting with Attorney General Merrick Garland, amid the team's fears of a possible indictment of Trump.
Donald Trump’s lawyers have sent Merrick Garland a letter requesting a meeting and whining about Hunter Biden. No, seriously.
Re: President Donald J. Trump
Dear Attorney General Garland:
We represent Donald J. Trump, the 45th President of the United States, in the investigation currently being conducted by the Special Counsel’s Office. Unlike President Biden, his son Hunter, and the Biden family, President Trump is being treated unfairly. No President of the United States has ever, in the history of our country, been baselessly investigated in such an outrageous and unlawful fashion. We request a meeting at your earliest convenience to discuss the ongoing injustice that is being perpetrated by your Special Counsel and his prosecutors.
Thank you for your attention to this matter.
Gee, do you think he dictated that?

Smells like rank fear.
< Muttley laff >
That phrase “Unlike Biden…Trump is being treated unfairly” implies that Trump believes that Biden has been treated fairly. Seems like that’s worth keeping in your back pocket. Might be handy.
As I said (with more emphasis) in a Pit thread, isn’t that nice that when one stands accused of various crimes all one has to do is complain personally to the Attorney General of the United States!
Part of me is afraid Garland will actually indulge Trump here and will call the whole thing off because it’s so unfair to Trump’s political career. But I really hope Garland instructs Trump and his lawyers in the proper means to fold it up until it’s all sharp corners and then… file it where it belongs.
I was hoping the letter was about a plea deal.

I don’t think that will happen. That’s why a special counsel was brought in; to avoid these kinds of concerns. By putting an independent investigator in charge, he can just wave off any accusations of political motives.
