FBI Search and Seizure at Trump's Mar-A-Lago Residence, August 8, 2022, Case Dismissed July 15, 2024

LOL, you’re too funny.

We used to refer to it as fast tracking cases in California. It’s just a mechanism to run cases of priority public interest through the court system faster than the normal schedule. I’m not familiar with Florida’s, but we could move cases quick when we needed to in California.

(Happily ninja’d by @EddyTeddyFreddy!)

I wonder how many others are going to be indicted on this mar a lago case. If trump is charged with conspiracy to obstruct, there should be charges on those with which he conspired. Yes?

Poor ms post. I bet she never thought this sort of thing would happen in her house.

I’ve been waiting so long to say this, and I know it hasn’t even gone to trial yet, let alone achieved a guilty verdict, but:

LOCK HIM UP!

It’s how we address the clerk in Canada: “I will pass the amended motion to Madam Clerk, and ask that it be stamped as received.”

Can he be pardoned if he takes a plea deal?

Only thing I know is that Inna and I were @ a restaurant when the Trump indictment came though, @ a restaurant when the Carroll case was decided, and just decided on eating out when this happened.

Obviously we need to eat out more.

Yes, it’s how we were addressed in our courts, too. It just gave me a giggle.

If it’s a federal charge, sure.

Yes, at least one other, and each co-conspirator need not have engaged in every criminal act of the conspiracy. So, A and B did X; B and C did Y; A and D did Z; but A, B, C, and D are all co-conspirators.

Be sure to be eating out when the verdict is announced.

Maybe an SDMB Go-Fund me: “Want more Trump court action? Help John and Inna eat out!|”

I’m expecting others to be charged.

And even more in the January 6th case, but that’s for another thread.

It may be an overreach; I don’t know enough about it.

But, as long as it’s on the books, it should be fairly applied to all who breach it.

Trump should be tried on exactly the same legal principles that Robert Hanssen faced. If acquitted, so be it.

Looking forward to reading the tome titled :

The United States of America v Donald John trump

Like any prospective best seller it should be released on a Tuesday.

Shit, I’m targeting MAGA with a $600k GoFundMe ask to keep us out of restaurants. Have you learned nothing the past 8 years?

Almost everyone is wrong here sometimes, but not everyone admits it

A promise to pardon would only last until the day a Republican other than DJT was nominated. Nixon was pardoned before DeSantis was born, but his aides must all know how it went for Jerry Ford.

I suppose that if Biden is re-elected, and Trump put in prison a few years from now, and DeSantis takes the White House, in 2029, and Trump is then dying from cancer, Ron would let him spend his last few months at home. But every stipulation in the last sentence, except maybe for DeSantis being president in 2029, is unlikely.

Hypothetical: he’s found guilty and files an appeal. Won’t he be in jail until the appeal is heard? That’s the way it usually is, as I understand it. (To be fair, that’s from movies and a few really high profile cases that have penetrated my consciousness, but they go to jail yelling “I will appeal!”.

I’m pretty gleeful. I really don’t care about the politics. I want that lying, raping, traitor, to face consequences for his actions. I want to see him to face these consequences for all the garbage he’s pulled and gotten away with for years.

I’m gleeful about this … hell I’m giddy about it, but I especially want to see him indicted for January 6th. (I guess this is where politics does come in but for me it’s more about ethics and morals.) This country needs to reign back the bullies, haters, and authoritarians. Putting his evil butt in jail is just the first step in the long march back to some sort of normality. Then perhaps this country can start progressing again instead of sliding into the stone age. Faint hope, but there always has to be hope.

Ooops, I probably shouldn’t bring up other investigations. Please consider me reminded.

Why does he need to fundraise if he’s going to stiff his lawyers anyway? What’s the earliest we can hope for a trial?

Additionally, each indictment just makes the next ones easier to bring. It’s not such a big leap to indict him in Georgia - he’s already under state indictment. It’s not such a big leap to indict him for January 6 - he’s already under federal indictment.

And the more the indictments roll up, the closer we get to some tangible measure of Justice.

A perp walk.
House arrest.
The burgeoning stress and despair.

Whatever it is, it’s going to be splendid.
