FBI Search and Seizure at Trump's Mar-A-Lago Residence, August 8, 2022, Case Dismissed July 15, 2024

One more time…

Considering the man is so lazy he had a button installed on his desk for the sole and specific purpose of summoning a can of Diet Coke that he couldn’t be bothered to get up and retrieve himself, the above should be amended to consider that he somehow managed to surround himself with underlings who were either so meekly deferential or so equally sociopathic as to carry out his insane directives.

I don’t mean the actual laborers who were physically carting the boxes; it’s entirely likely they were just following orders without much idea of what was inside. I mean the middle-ground little people who got the orders from Trump personally and then passed them down the chain. Because of course Trump himself is an Important Person who would never darken his surroundings with the presence of people who do the actual work. Trump gives orders (whether explicit or, more commonly, implicit) to other people who relay the orders. That’s how he knows he’s important. The closer he is to people who actually do things, the lower down the chain that puts him, and the less important he is.

This is why he places such a premium on loyalty; he depends heavily on people who can interpret and pass on his wishes, the less directly stated the better: previously Cohen, and now Nauta. If he’s giving directives to the actual labor, they may ask clarifying questions he doesn’t want to answer.

Anyway, the point is, it’s easy to say that no sane person would do what Trump did, and to an extent that may be true, but it must be recognized that he couldn’t have done all this himself, so either he’s very good at finding people who share his specific nuttiness, or it’s overstating things to say this makes him a legally incompetent loon.

Depends on the province. Legal Aid in some provinces is done by private counsel, in some by a staff clinic system.

That’s The Donkey-Brains Defense, made famous in the Reynolds v Reynolds case.

To be completely fair, I think that there are a few among his remaining supporters for whom it’s a matter of principle: They won’t judge anyone for their criminal activity until it’s proven, and it’s the job of the jury, not them, to determine when it’s been proven. I don’t think this accounts for very many of them, and I think it’s a lousy principle, but there are probably a few.

Why shouldn’t he represent himself? After all, nobody knows more about the law than he does. If I’m ever in court for my life or freedom, I’d like to represent myself just long enough to call the prosecutor “my learned colleague”. Then get a real lawyer.

I wager there are very few indeed. Trump supporters are more likely to, say, assume most Mexican immigrants are criminals.

Yeah but his specialty is in person Fuhrer-like speeches and rallies.

This is part of the Brett Baier interview. Trump explains why he’s not going to debate anyone. “Because they might say mean things about me!”

That August debate (and the RNC Convention) is in my town. I’ll be thrilled if he skips it/them. I have no idea how many people will be descending on Milwaukee, but if he’s not here, hopefully there’s less of a chance of things getting scary.
We were supposed to host the 2020 DNC convention, but Covid cancelled it.

Also, did Trump call Chris Christie a…slub? I looked at the subtitles, but “he’s not tougher on anybody’s slope” doesn’t make much sense either.

He said “He’s not tougher on anybody, he’s a slob”

Maybe he was speaking Yiddish?

https://en.m.wiktionary.org/wiki/schlub

“Namecall, namecall, nasty nickname… Why would I let anybody take shots at ME?”

What a stupendous asshole. What a fragile name-calling bully who can dish it out, but can’t take it

Slob?

Projective fat-shaming is the worst kind. :frowning:

Fat guy on fat guy crime is unbecoming. But then again, we’re talking about Republicans. “Becoming” isn’t something they give a shit about. It’s woke or something. Politically correct. Whatever the fuck they’re calling it now.

They are not becoming Republicans…

According to Lawrence O’Donnell on MSNBC, this includes transcripts of all grand jury testimony, several audio recordings, video taken from Mar-a-Lago, and recordings of statements Trump has made in public since the indictment. Pretty soon His Royal Orangeness will know exactly who turned on him and what they said, and he can’t do anything about it! (Well, he has been ordered not to discuss or disclose anything to do with trial evidence, but I’d keep a real close watch on his switchboard and his fake social network account. I bet he doesn’t go 24 hours without being in contempt of court.)

He wouldn’t last any longer than when he can get to the nearest phone or microphone.
Minutes, at best.

I can see it now.
TRUMP: Let me see who ratted me out.
LAWYERS: NO! You don’t need to see.
TRUMP: I mean it, let me see now!
LAWYERS: No.
TRUMP: You’re fired.
LAWYERS: Thank God. Also, no.
stomping tantrum, breath holding, screaming on the floor, ketchup on the walls…
