FBI Search and Seizure at Trump's Mar-A-Lago Residence, August 8, 2022, Case Dismissed July 15, 2024

Did Jack specify why he resigned? Or is it so obvious he felt it redundant?

He announced like a month ago that he was going to resign as soon as he finished the reports. He would have been fired on Jan 20th anyway.

I was wondering if he gave a reason? Is his reasoning that he would be fired anyway? Id like to hear his perspective.

He’s not exactly a Chatty Cathy. He has always preferred for his work to speak for him.

If you read the gift article I linked, I think the futility of him sticking around is made clear. There won’t be anything to prosecute, and he’d just be a sitting duck, waiting to be fired.

Yeah thats probably the answer. I was just curious about his specifics. But oh well…

Wouldn’t him resigning mean that Cannon now has even less authority to tell him not to release his findings?

Now that he is out of office, it would be a federal crime for him to do that.

Undoubtedly. But let’s dream for a bit:

  1. Smith goes back to his job in the Hague, outside of the US.
  2. He is carrying a copy of his report.
  3. He leaks it to a trustworthy non-US media source; say, the BBC, which publishes it.
  4. Hilarity, and a bunch of other things, ensue.

I don’t think that he will do that, but it’s fun to dream.

Including investigation and criminal prosecution. Because how many anonymous sources happen to be in Europe with one of the very carefully controlled copies of the report in hand?

Oh, this is your dream, not Smith’s nightmare.

If you’re loyal to Trump like Walt Nauta, he’ll (occasionally) be loyal to you. It’s nice that he and
Ronnie Jackson can be inspirations for young cadets.

He’s eminently qualified, there’s lots of boxes to be moved back and forth at Annapolis.

He hasn’t done shit for Aileen Cannon yet.

What help does she need? She is already the front runner fo the next SCOTUS opening.

The ages of the justices are Clarence Thomas (77), Samuel Alito (74), Sonia Sotomayor (70), John Roberts (70), Elena Kagan (68), Brett Kavanaugh (60), Neil Gorsuch (58), Amy Coney Barrett (53), and Ketanji Brown Jackson (54).

There’s no Ruth Bader Ginsburg waiting in the wings this time around. Since Thomas ignored John Oliver’s million-dollar plus a motor home offer he’s not likely to retire and none of the rest are looking infirm. I hope she’s not hurting her breath.

I’m sure there will be openings on the Courts of Appeals. I doubt Trump with bother “rewarding” her though. She’s no longer important to him.

Still, I would not be surprised if Thomas retires before November 2028, particularly if the polling suggests that a Dem may win the election. Although if the Dems regain control of the Senate in '26, there may not be a confirmation hearing.
