Let’s not forget that (a) we’re talking multiple potential felonies here – at least four that I know of (Jan 6 insurrection, Georgia election fraud and probably many other instances, Trump Org insurance and tax fraud, and now theft and mishandling of national secrets), and (b) that at least three of these felonies are serious crimes against the United States. How anyone could believe that such an individual is fit to run for president is astounding. May as well run Trumpie’s best pal Vladimir Putin for president.
So the left dislikes it when the Espionage Act is used to squash whistleblowers and prevent government abuses from being made public, but likes it when it’s used to protect national security.
The irony of it all really burns. Vlad of course couldn’t run for president because the Founders were so intensely paranoid of any hint of disloyalty in the person holding the most powerful position in the land that they required any candidate for president to be a natural-born citizen, as well as at least a fourteen-year resident in the country. Yet there is a real possibility that an outright traitor, one who would sell out the country for a few bucks and a hamberder, and who was already president once, may be yet a second time.
The Justice Department is using the standard government corruption investigative strategy of throughly searching to find the greatest crime that the politician under investigation has committed, and charge him with that. Just like he was a corrupt Illinois governor.
In this case, I don’t think it will work, because there are too many Trumpers, in the jury pool, who would love a chance to get him off. He’ll win like he won his impeachment trials.
If the Justice Department was more partisan, and thus determined to see him punished, they would be looking for a way to get him in jail without going through a jury. Instead they are treating him just like they would a crooked Democrat.
