That’s “especially tax-cheating rapist thieving traitors”
FBI Search and Seizure at Trump's Mar-A-Lago Residence, August 8, 2022, Case Dismissed July 15, 2024
You say “potato”, I say, “Oh Jesus Christ, is this what we’ve come to?!?”
That’s why I didn’t fear the release of the affidavit. (although it was heavily redacted). They have what they need, pull the trigger and get going.
Jill Wine-Banks, once a member of the Watergate Special Prosecutor’s team, is a frequent legal analyst on MSNBC. When she appears she frequently wears a brooch whose design reflects the topic she’s commenting on.
Tonight’s brooch was a padlock.
This is SOP for Fox News. When there is bad news for their side, instead of reporting the news, they report on what right-wing pundits are saying about the news. This allows them to present right-wing spin as fact: yes, it is factually correct that this lying right-wing moron really said this. At Fox, that is the news.
Yes I had seen this before.
The trouble is that the right-wing spin machine has successfully spun this as a minor kerfuffle over some not too very sensitive documents. It is not just that this could be the very first criminal case against a former POTUS – it that it is going to fail if brought so it will never be filed. The pundits can talk about this for a few more months, but it is over as of now.
Just like when I knew Kyle Rittenhouse was not going to be convicted once the judge starting issuing orders and making statements. By excluding certain relevant facts- he decided the course of the entire trial. Here, in the documents case, it is no longer about the evil criminal who is Trump putting our country at risk through mishandling of very sensitive documents – in twenty and fifty years it will be an insignificant footnote that amounted to jack-squat.
The crazy toddler is on effing recorded phone calls tampering with elections and we cannot get him convicted on that!! He attempted a coup that included an armed insurrection, the disruption of a governmental function, the potential death of political rivals (including at least one member of his own administration), overtaking governmental buildings and it happened in real time before our own eyes and no charges there either (at lest not yet).
Nobody hates the guy more than I do, but this whole Mar-a-Lago enterprise is going to evaporate into nothingness. There was a time when I believed this case was the first battle in a war that would change things for a good long time. That a firm conviction would be followed by charges over Georgia and the Capitol insurrection. Then I believed it might be a simple and easy conviction that made Donald J. Trump insignificant because even a conviction that led to house arrest would be enough to place him outside any role as a power broker.
The truth of the matter is that Donald J. Trump will die fat and happy while golfing in a place where he owns all his eyes can see in every direction – sadly years from now. Made insignificant by becoming a parody of himself rather than his just recompense for his many crimes. Whatever Faustian bargain he has made – I am secure in the knowledge that (even as a stone cold atheist) none of the cost for his evil doings and the misuse of his immense power - far exceeding his competence, will be paid for in THIS lifetime. Mar-a-Lago = footnote of history.
No one would be happier if I was wrong about this than me, but I am not wrong about this.
Mueller was investigating a sitting President.
DOJ is investigating a golfing ex-President.
It makes a difference.
Also in the real world, Trump defenders are saying “If securing these documents was so vital to national security, why did you stand by for MONTHS knowing that we were keeping them in a poorly secured way.” And from a national security perspective, the DoJ has no rebuttal.
Also in the real world, stuff was being done, the record is quite clear Trump was ignoring and denying the requests for 18 months.
C’mon, read the NARA letter. Trump ignored repeated requests to give those documents back. Translating his refusal to follow the law as ‘standing by for months’ is beneath the standards of this Board’s mission of fighting ignorance.
Yes, Trump defenders love to have it both ways.
- Why did they wait so long if it was that critical?
- Why, after months, did you get a warrant when all you had to do was ask?
No one is fooled by Trump supporters having it both ways.
Except the Trump supporters.
18 months does not represent urgency. I understand it’s a complicated situation, but as someone who worked in the IC for a decade, I do not understand how it took that long. It’s either incompetence or they knew the classified material was of low importance or low risk of being released.
Put it another way… If you were the head of the FBI and you thought there was a chance that Trump was sitting on nuclear secrets that he could sell to the Saudis, how long would you have waited before going in with force?
Well 2 is a nonsense argument and we all know that. It’s a lie – they did ask.
And who is telling the head of the FBI this, and when?
C’mon, stop it. The man broke the law. The Process caught up to him. He’s busted. All you’re doing is arguing murder vs manslaughter, a pointless diversion.
“The police didn’t catch Ted Bundy until he murdered in five states! This proves the police didn’t really think Bundy was doing anything wrong!”
No, I’m arguing that I don’t think he was sitting on nuclear secrets to sell to the Saudis
That’s not what you said. This is the first time this morning you mentioned ‘selling nuclear secrets to the Saudis’.
Read up. We will.
Right. That’s an example of something that might be “vital to national security.” And what I’m saying is, I don’t think there’s anything like that. If there is, the FBI is incompetent.
You said read the NARA letter. I did. That’s where you’re getting the impression that there was a risk of a serious security breech, right? When did the FBI director have access to the information that was in that letter? At least a month before the raid, by my understanding.
If you were the FBI director, would you let Donald Trump poorly secure information vital to national security for a month?
Not 18 months. The Feds didn’t know the serious nature of the documents until they wrestled away boxes of related documents from Trump earlier this year. That told them two things; classified documents were missing, and that Trump could not be trusted to hand them over voluntarily.
Republicans have screamed about the media and the government being biased against them for so long that people are afraid that any action they take against them (whether it be law enforcement or accurate reporting) will get them labelled as biased, executing a witch hunt, etc. The republican tactics of screaming about persecution all day long are actually working - people are afraid to go after them. I suspect this played a role in their far, far too gentle attempt to recover the documents and we need to purge all this hesitation out of the justice department. I mean, ffs, they would’ve let him get away with selling state secrets if he had just given back the documents when they asked nicely.
