Fear the Walking Dead: 1.03 "The Dog" (open spoilers)

He probably screwed up the scene several times to get more cookies.

I’ve only seen zombie dogs in the Resident Evil universe. The T-Virus will re-animate anything.

In the TWD/FTWD world, it seems the disease only acts on humans.

I’m glad I didn’t watch this episode.

I should note that even with all the flaws, in my opinion this episode was an improvement over the first 2.

Their world is one where the zombie books, novels etc never existed.

I wouldn’t be anywhere near invested enough in any television to type up what you just did and especially not to a show I didn’t particularly like. What’s the point in that? Are you trying to convince others you’re right or convince yourself?

It’s not particularly entertaining to read either. See Cinema Sins for a great example on how to point out flaws if that’s your aim. The way you’re doing it just sounds bitter and grumpy not funny and entertaining.

Would could be more grumpy than a Disgruntled Penguin?

I’m not sure, I’ve never met Could. Hentor the Barbarian on the other hand appears to be today.

ahem

It is impossible to stay angry while watching a penguin.

I sometimes think they just but in silly stuff into the show so we can feel smart while watching the Talking Dead.

I wasn’t aware that I was required to amuse you. I’m just recalling obvious stupid stuff. I do find it amusing to read when other people snark on stupidity, even when they lack Wilde’s wit and flair when doing so.

I admit to feeling frustrated. I love the premise of the show, and it could easily be great. It just gets fucked up in the hands of such morons.

There were more than four officers on the street in front of the Salazar barber shop. After the two families leave the shop, there are two officers wrestling on the ground. One is trying (successfully) to bite the other. That is followed shortly (during 0:05) by a long shot of line of officers standing shoulder to shoulder, from curb to curb, in front of the police spotlight vehicles (for lack of a better name). (It’s the scene where someone is standing on a car just in front of the camera. Behind him are rioters, behind the rioters are the officers, and behind the officers are the spotlight trucks.)

There are then several close shots (during 0:06) of multiple (more than four) officers advancing on, and engaging the rioters. Then they run the story intro.
Why kill the dog? It enables the plot line. Every living creature is in danger at this point (day 3?). I believe the interaction with the GSD is another clue as to how to effectively deal with zombies. How is it possible for a 90lb GSD to lose a fight with an unarmed intruder? Of course, the dog is a pet and not a trained guard/attack dog and it has not been trained to go for the throat, a move which would prevent an impervious-to-pain zombie from biting it. What’s needed is a Hound of the Baskervilles. Lots of them.

Another clue would be the police shooting of the zombie in the hospital parking lot. The viewers know that the zombie won’t drop until it’s little grey cells are destroyed. Something that hasn’t yet occured to the main characters.

Later, Papa Salazar’s 1st shot removed the dog-killing zombie’s nose/face, which didn’t have the desired effect. His 2nd shot removed it’s brain. Problem solved.

Plus, in an earlier pisode, the drug dealer had been shot, hit by a truck, hit by a truck again, and had been throw some 40 feet in the air but was still moving. When will the survivors finally connect the dots?

The preview of EP 4 suggests that someone from the Guard Unit will explain why these survivors are the lucky ones. Maybe.

Plus 1.

Yeah… frustrated is the word.

I understand, our characters don’t know the Z word and aren’t aware of what’s happening.

BUT:

  1. A few hours ago, I killed my boss because he attacked me and this other kid.

  2. A few hours after that, I saw the neighbors chasing each other around and attacking each other.

  3. My back yard is easily accessible through my driveway.

  4. I have seen weird creepy sick people staggering around the street.

I would go so far as to say that I would not leave the back door standing open under those circumstances. I would even go so far as to say we’re moving into “too dumb to live” territory if you do this in Los Angeles during rolling blackouts, whether it’s riots, zombies, plague, or simply last Tuesday.

I WANT to like this show. And to its credit, it’s starting to get somewhere. But the writing needs serious help, and the characters need to get interesting REAL quick. And I stand by my statement that if one breaks into a house to steal a gun, makes a point of locating the ammo, and then hears a scream? One who forgets to bring the ammo is, again, moving into “too dumb to live” territory.

This is not to say I’m hatin’ the show. Like I said, Ruben Blades finally has something to do other than be grumpy. We’re getting more characterization in there. We’re setting up our conflicts. But I do wish they’d get on with it. It’s been done better and more deftly, which sets up big expectations for a show where we’re saddled with unlikeable protagonists who seem to have a lot of dumb moments…

I don’t recall saying you didn’t amuse me nor did I ask you to amuse me. The fact that my words hit a little too close to home causing the word vomit spew that I read indeed did amuse me. I apologize in advance for not holding FTWD lore in a more serious light.

I am glad to hear that you can find humor in reading other people’s snark. There was only one Oscar Wilde and if his was the only snark allowable the world would be an even more bleak place.

You think you caused me to snark on FTWD, Disgruntled Penguin? You must be very, very new here, and must also think quite highly of yourself.

Absolutely. I mean, none of those things are traumatic at all and the average citizen has clear as a bell thinking and planning when faced with traumatic events. I mean, it’s not like people under far less stress to say, leave their child in a locked car all day. People are always perfect thinking survival machines.

Yeah Ruben is the character that is starting to grow on me too. I disagree about being done better and more deftly. In fact, it’s never been tried. No one has tried to portray the beginning days of the ZA in more than a half hour or so much less over multiple television seasons. Like it or not, we’re in uncharted waters now and better and more deftly wraps the series up too quickly IMHO.

Ahh, it the you must be a new guy you don’t know what you are talking about argument like that invalidates my point… Is that the new ploy? I mean, I don’t believe that a discussion of FTWD need get personal but then again, up until now I have been pretty amused by the discussion. Now you want to start personal insults on my time here and sense of self worth? Wow, this show really means a lot to you.

I have been here long enough to know that we’re supposed to attack the argument not the poster. I’m surprised you haven’t been here long enough to pick up on that yet.

Now, your first reply in this thread is in reply to my post. I’d say it’s fair to say that I caused you to snark on this FTWD thread or were you just looking to dump on the thread in general then you chose me to be the recipient of it?

What you just wrote makes no sense whatsoever.

Well there’s the problem then. We can’t communicate since we are speaking different languages. Actually, that works for me. I take it you agree. Enjoy your ranting.
