Two black dudes for the price of one…
Johny Derp is not annoying me nearly as much anymore. Mom who refuses to explain anything and teenage daughter on the other hand are driving me nuts.
So far, so meh. The only reason I know who I am supposed to care about by who they have shown the most. I really am not interested in the junkie kid or what happens to him. His sister seems really flat as well, although towards the end when she was allowed to show some concern for others, she started to feel a little less two dimensional.
There was little momentum with the show, and that was frustrating.
A trivial but dumb thing - the mom gets the cabinet partially opened, but then puts down the pry bar so that she can wrassle the door with her bare hand?
I did like the topical aspect of the protest/riot over police shootings, and the riot foreshadowing a zombie horde.
Because high schools keep their narcotics in a locker a woman can peel open with her bare hands.
My thoughts exactly.
I thought it was an improvement over last week, at least in the pacing.
Having the family separated is good, so we’ve got at least a couple of different groups to follow.
She had a crowbar.
Yeah, I liked this one a bit better than last week. Especially the 2nd half. I’m getting the feeling that the family isn’t going to be reunited until the final episode of this season-- IIRC, there are only 6 episodes to this “season”.
The younger son looks like a young version of Lou Diamond Philips. Zombie Lives Matter. Who caries an actual video camera these days?
I actually liked this one a little less. Too many people doing dumb things. Walking toward the principal? And then leaving the food? I get that they don’t want to scare their kids or sound crazy, but surely they could say a little more than “listen to me.” And Is the annoying girl the only one who knows how to text?
I liked it a lot better over the pilot. You can start to see how they’re shaping this. Should improve with every successive episode. At least with only six this season, there’s not much room for filler. We’ve just hit a low simmer, and by the end it should be boiling over.
As for walking toward the principal (and despite what she witnessed with drug dealer guy), they’re still not really sure what this is or what they’re up against. Especially with friends and loved ones. He was her colleague and friend, it only makes sense to assume he’s sick and highly delusional, and being a counsellor, she’d be naturally inclined to try and help him; talk to him.
They don’t quite realize they’re dead dead, yet. And very, very hungry.
The only frustrating part is witnesses willfully not telling anyone what the fuck is going on. If I saw half the shit they saw, I wouldn’t be able to keep my mouth shut retelling it and analyzing it with others. This knowledge would save lives, why isn’t the mom telling her daughter exactly what she knows and saw? Or the dad explain the situation with his ex-wife? Gah!
Also. Dad spotting the cops stocking up on water and other supplies is rather telling. Authorities/concealment must’ve been going on until this got out. I’m guessing a designer bio weapon or some shit got out/backfired
Keep in mind this is supposed to be 2009 or so.
Enjoyed this episode and I’ll be following for the rest of the season. I liked the pacing and that we’re getting more zombies (FTWD: now with more zombies!).
And I really like that kid Tobias, the one who asked Maddie for his knife back when he saw her raiding the cabinet o’contraband at the school. I hope we see more of him; he’s the teenage Cassandra of the show and at least has an idea how to survive. He played that with a sadness on his very young face that really hit me.
I think he’s meant to be a budding film student.
Agreed. And while it’s a useful trope, the notion that the people in “authority” know that the crap has hit the fan and they are ALL keeping that secret, is a bit much to swallow. Also that it’s not on the news; is there no Fox News in this universe to blame Obama and claim it’s the Armageddon? No crazy radio news stations?
Liked Dread Girl Zombie, looks like she just came from the Burning Man…hee:)
I like Tobias, too, but I fear that he’s zombie bait.
It’s… complicated.
The first rule of the Zombie Apocalypse is you never go anywhere alone in the Zombie Apocalypse. Think these guy will ever learn that?
Shit. That’s probably how and where this whole ZA started. Someone high on shrooms riding a bike made entirely out of glowsticks crashed into a sculpture/bus made out of human bones, and boom… zombie virus.
Dad comes back, alone, after witnessing a zombie eating a baby. His face is full of numb horror.
Son: Dad! What is it? You okay?!
Dad: pensively silent
Son: Dad?! What happened?!
Dad: pensively silentStaring out the window*
Son: Dad! Talk to me!
Dad: Starts wandering the house gathering food and supplies
Son: Dad, you’re acting weird. Like you saw someone eat a baby or something. Talk to me!
Dad: as if just now noticing his son is there
Son: Dad! What happened?!
Dad: pensively silent
Son: Dad!!!
Dad pensively silentturns to look at him*
Son: What are you doing?! Talk to me?! WHAT HAPPENED?!!!
Dad: pensively silent
A beat.
Another beat.
Dad: Stuff.
Son: …
Dad: pensively silent
Dad: Get your things, we’re going to the desert.
[Commercial break]
I knew last week that the principal was going to get zombified right away. The foreshadowing wasn’t subtle.
I half expected her to get whacked in the head with that crowbar. (Only half because obviously it’s too early to kill off a main character.)
NOOOOOOOO!!! He’s the most interesting character so far! The only one with a clue!
Yeah, total zombie food.
We should start a zombie pool. Can I do a poll here?
I kind of hope that this is a “one and done” series. They’ve moved the plot forward pretty quickly over 2 episodes, such that I feel like we’re not too far behind where Rick & Co. are already. I don’t need or want to watch two shows that are basically about the same thing… for some reason I thought this was going to be a lot more of a slow burn when it came to exploring how the zombie outbreak came to pass.
