Meh, so apparently either; the Canadian government is pursuing the exact same policy as the US, or we’ve gone to war with Canada. :dubious: Or the writers just forgot Vancouver is in a foreign country. And I’m not usually one to complain about the next episode trailers, but I could’ve done without that particular spoiler (even if it was exactly what I saw coming). Oh, and at least satellite phones are still working.
Please don’t talk about stuff in the next episode preview as some of us don’t watch those and don’t want even tiny spoilers.
Teen boy must have been a pharmacist in a previous life. Poison pills (whatever that is) are something every drug addict would recognize on sight?
I liked it when Travis was talking to the survivalist dude while he was explaining that cities up and down the coast had been napalmed, and then he said, “they shut down the border. Nothing comes in or out.” And the look on Travis’ face was like, whoa, let that sink in, I’m from LA and I totally believe nothing is going to cross the US/Mexico border…
I really didn’t understand the border thing. Serious? Satirical? Badly played, either way. They’re on a boat in the zombie apocalypse for crying out loud. What possible practical difference could it make to these people if the border crossing stations are shut down? For that matter, what difference if they were just abandoned?
One of them is. The other one isn’t.
I like when they are trying to hide in the cove and then they light up the boat like a Christmas Tree.
But, basically nothing happened in this episode. They are exactly where they were when the episode started. I guess the one teenage kid now knows how to kill Walkers.
As for closing the border, was that a riff on Trump?
ETA: They probably did mean Canadian Vancouver, because borders aren’t a big deal in the Zombie Apocalypse. Also it’s entirely possible that what’s left of the US and Canadian militaries would be co-operating. Or that the Canucks obliterated their own city in the same way the Yanks did. Nobody said it was US forces that hit Vancouver.
At this point, how the hell would they “shut down the border”? Just park all the remaining military there? How many people are left alive and uninfected, at this point?
At this point? To shut down the border, we needed the government out of the way, it has been the problem all along. The zombie apocalypse makes it finally possible to shut down the border!
I also like the story arc of, “Hey, we know the world just ended and all, but we just got off this boat, see, and we’re on your island unarmed, and we’d just like to ask if this junkie here can spend some quality time alone with your children, like, in the next 24 hours?”
It’s just a stupid plot device because, presumably, Strand is trying to get to Mexico. Especially stupid since he has a boat.
For the first time since this series began, I was truly bored by an episode.
The only thing that kept me interested was trying to figure out who Strand was talking to on the satellite phone.
Perhaps like being able to tell poisonous mushrooms from Psilocybin mushrooms.
I’m glad the kid did not get to stay on the boat, that was an immediate show dropper for me.
There were some interesting ideas in this episode, but it felt like the writers never could get the script squared away. Like they went through an inordinate amount of rewrites to get everything to hang together.
I think they needed another couple dozen rewrites to get it properly squared away.
I think the idea is that most drug addicts would recognize homemade pills, which definitely look different than pills you get at the pharmacy. Nick connected the dots to figure out that in this instance, homemade pills = poison pills.
The scene where Mom was handing over the kid(s) to our heroes was one of those that had me thinking, why is this not happening somewhat surreptitiously? Because you KNOW the Dad is going to interrupt and cause problems. Sure enough he does, right on cue.
I know about Vancouver, WA, but it’s clear from context they meant Vancouver, BC. Interesting they actually made Travis Maori like the actor (although Travis isn’t a New Zealander). I wonder how New Zealand fared in the zombie apocalypse.
They’d have to be homemade, right? It’s not like suicide pills are actually manufactured (at least outside of government labs).
What exactly was the problem with the island they were on that made it unsafe? They briefly mentioned a tourist area across the inlet, but I still don’t understand why that was dangerous given the fences.
All in all, it seemed like the near perfect area to park until everyone gets a better handle on what is happening in the world. Everything goes to hell? Then hop on the $10M yacht that is stocked with food and supplies for emergency needs.
The fence was actually very flimsy and the tourist area had hundreds of tourist zombies. Basically the only reason they were still alive was because the horde on the other side had not accidentally wandered over to them yet.
