Fear the Walking Dead: 2.06 "Sicut Cervus" (open spoilers)

Yes. As I offered upthread, I believe he is the father of Chris, with whose mother he remained in contact after their divorce because of shared custody. Chris is troubled, and did not seem to have a very good relationship with his father pre-apocalypse. As I recall, a scheduled child custody visitation happened congruently with a major episode in the early apocalypse (a street riot?) resulting in Chris’ mom being dragged along into the plot with her ex-husband. Later she was bitten and was the first in their little group to be “saved” by execution. By her ex. Which further fucked up poor Chris’ little head.

When we met them, Travis was trying to be the substitute male parental figure to Maddie’s children Nick and what’s-her-name the teen girl. (Stepfather may have come later, but at this point they weren’t married nor cohabiting.) They have not worked out all their issues, especially issues involving their own children. Nick the Junkie’s problem was obvious, although we’ve seen little problematic in his behavior lately. And the girl seems mostly to be ‘innocent’ or sheltered, thus leading her into revealing too much to a stranger on the radio. Both though are given mom’s possibly somewhat myopic protection, even from the man she chose to bring into her life. And Travis, for his part, is guilty enough over Chris even without the suggestion that he might have become a murderer, and might be looking at Travis’ new family for his next victims. So they’re both protecting their own.

Even if you did want to watch it again, those would be the most skippable scenes anyway.

When they were in Thomas’ death bed, Thomas started crying and saying that he didn’t want to leave Strand. After a moment of reflection, Strand asked what if he didn’t need to? What if they went together? Thomas said that he could never ask that. I think at this point Strand just kissed him and the scene ended. Next time we picked up with them, IIRC, was when the wafers of death were brought in and the crazy lady was saying how she misjudged Strand.

As a PSA for the thread, since none of us can remember her name, I just looked it up on IMDb: The daughter’s name is Alicia. (And the actress who plays her is named Alycia. Apparently she also played a lesbian icon on The 100; never watched that show myself.)

Yeah, since it’s simple enough to pull up the IMDB page on the show, I should really stop making up snarky nicknames for characters.

No, no. It is a Straight Dope Honor if the nickname one makes up is accepted by other posters.

Jesus, what a horrible thought.

I remember when Heroes came out, everybody was known by nicknames. Stripper mom. Flying senator. Good times. That was a comment, not a nickname.

Good summary. The teen girl’s name is Alicia, both the actress and the character, which theoretically should make it easier to remember.

For the actress?
