I bring up threads I’ve posted to previously. Viewing them in a list, I right-click any that I want to revisit and see where the conversation has gone since last peek. After I do that, the thread in list view shows a blue bubble indicating how many new replies have come in.
It’s a cute and potentially helpful feature, but it makes no sense for it to only display that number after I’ve chosen to open it.
Since the SDMB doesn’t control the actual underlying software (Discourse), you’d probably get more traction by posting this on their own forum: Feature - Discourse Meta
PS Thanks for sharing the /posted link to show your own posts! I had no idea that existed… useful indeed.
I think the theory about posting feature requests here is that either Discourse developers monitor this forum (which is a standard default forum on all Discourses), or that TPTB might forward the feedback.
The complication that impedes posting on Discourse Meta is that it’s hard to know if the complaint is based on standard Discourse behavior or something from a plugin or a configuration choice.
But of course, it doesn’t really hurt to post both here and in the Meta, if you can.
Apropos of the original complaint: I’ve seen that behavior in other Discourses, so it seems fairly standardized.
Fair enough. Sorry, wasn’t trying to thread police or anything, just that in a few recent cases, we seem to have gotten more attention (especially from actual Discourse devs) by posting there instead of here.
I don’t know how often they monitor us anymore, but they definitely watch the threads there.
You problem is Sam’s simple theme, not Discourse. I used SDMB Light theme and my unread page works like you wish yours did.
Sam’s is all about hiding everything except the most essential stuff. It’s training wheelz for newbies. If that’s not you, use a more appropriate theme.
It might also be a responsive choice in the mobile rendering of the forum, since I’ve seen the same behavior with other themes, but I pretty much only use my phone for the forum.
That could be the difference in some / many cases. Which is why we implore people asking tech Qs to tell us what device, OS, browser, etc., up front in their OP.
In the case of the OP here, they provided a screenshot that clearly is not from a mobile.
