I’m not seeing the checkmark anymore. Does this new board have some way of noting which threads I’m participating in?
Yeah, that was my first gripe as well. That and the lack of pages, but not knowing what I’ve posted in is more egregious.
Profile>Activity
ETA:Also, if you’ve posted, there will be a small numbered circle when there are new posts. Click the number to go to the first new post.
I don’t understand why I have to go hunting. I want to look at the page and see a checkmark, like I used to.
Discourse expects you to let it keep track of that for you. It does a pretty good job, but you have to get it set up the way you want it and then keep it set up. There’s no checkmark, though.
Best way is to set threads you’re very interested in to Watched or Tracking, but that doesn’t really help if you’ve got the whole forum set to Watched or Tracking. As you lose interest, reduce the threads to Normal. And Mute things you don’t care anything at all about.
Profile>Activity is not the answer. That only shows a list of threads you’ve participated in, which is occasionally handy. Better to see all topics with those you’ve participated in marked somehow.
That’s just not how Discourse works. It’s notifications based. You’ll be notified when a thread or forum you’re “following” gets some action. Go to Preferences >> Notifications to set that up generally.
There is a My Posts section that can be added to the navigation bar (Categories, Latest, etc.) but I don’t know if that’s an add-on or is standard with Discourse.
I’d rather have the timeouts back - oh well
Looks like I’ll be keeping a notebook of thread titles then. This is weird. I guess I will get used to it.
Is there a way to globally default the tracking of threads we post in to “mute” or anything other than “bother and interrupt me with notifications”? I’m having to remember to set tracking to what I want with every thread I post in. It’s annoying. Not stomping-off-in-a-huff annoying but annoying nonetheless.
Also, I really hope my e-mail is NOT filling up with a crap-ton of notices - the e-mail I keep for message boards and such is not one I use for casual conversations, I like to run it lean and mean and not have to hunt through hundreds of useless emails to find what’s important to me.
i turned off all the email options. Maybe I’ll turn some on later, but I don’t need a lot of useless emails from “moving in”.
Preferences > Notifications > “When I post in a topic, set that topic to”: “Normal”
And also turn off emails.
Also, I’ve been on SDMB for I don’t know how many years, I have no idea what “Checkmark” everyone is referring to.
At the old board, when looking at the topic listing for a particular forum, there was a checkmark next to the threads that you had posted in. It was very handy. Maybe it didn’t show up in all themes.
On the old board there was an obvious easy to find list of subscribed threads which consisted of threads that I had subscribed to or posted to. I don’t see that or any way to configure that. (I’ll probably now lose track of this thread.)
Yeah we really need a way to manage subscriptions - see what threads we’re subscribed to in one place, etc.
This new software totally breaks the way I’ve always used this board. I would go to “subscriptions” then go down the list until I hit one that hadn’t been updated. Then I’d check out “latest”. It was very efficient.
Are our old subscriptions maintained on here somehow or is it all lost?
I think my question is relevant to this topic. When I would reply to a thread, I’d get a notification (once) if someone replied to the thread. Then, if I read the thread, I would again be notified if there were a new reply.
Is there any way to set that up with this system? Basically, I want to get an e-mail when a thread I’ve posted in gets a reply after I’ve visited the thread.
You could try bookmarking threads.
In the list of threads, you then get a little icon next to the threads you’ve bookmarked.
You can also easily see your list of bookmarks. Either click on your the profile icon at the top right, and go to the bookmarks tab, or go to your full profile, where bookmarks are under Activity.
Activity also shows you all the threads you’ve posted on
Yeah, the “recent activity of subscribed threads” list that came up when you clicked User CP on the old boards is the main way I used the boards. Bummer that such functionality is gone.
We can still see a list of every thread we’ve posted to, but it shows all of them, even the ones with no new posts.
