Bus Kid worked in both Ohio and Illinois this year. She handed me her taxes to do, and I did the federal EZ for her, which is a snap. We then mailed that one in.
My eyes glazed over trying to figure how to do 2 state filings, so I called Rudy, my tax guy. I explained the problem, he said just toss the the W-2’s in the mail to him, he’ll handle them as a courtesy for next to nothing.
In the phone conversation, I mentioned that I did the federal form, but he was busy and distracted (go figure, a tax guy busy this time of year!) and must have forgotten.
Yesterday, in the mail was ALL THREE of the returns completed and filed electronically. Including the federal tax return. The federal return which was mailed two days before. On the note I sent with her W-2’s I only mention the 2 state returns, so if he didn’t recall the phone conversation, it’s reasonable he would have done them all. I don’t blame him.
So now her federal taxes have been filed twice. I know, “call Rudy” is the best advice here, but before I do, someone let me know: Is the Bus Kid off to the pokey for filing the return twice? :smack:
I have hunch this should be a simple thing to fix, maybe a phone call or e-mail to the right person. But, being the IRS, maybe not so much.
Anyone got some definitive advice here before I call Rudy?
