On monday, after 8 years at home with babies and another 7 years at home with kids PLUS part-time community college, I will be starting full time at Christopher Newport University in Newport News, Virginia. With any luck, in 3 years I’ll be teaching History, Social Studies, Civics or Geography at some lucky high school. ::turns back for well deserved and hearty pats of encouragement::
Go, Jess! Returning students are the best. I loved them when I was teaching and then when I went back to school at age 32, it was so much better than the first time around.
Congrats for getting this far and good luck!
My mom worked outside the home and went to college while my brother and I were growing up. A class here, a class there, and twelve years later, she had her BS is social work. I remember when she graduated–I was 16 at the time. It was SO COOL to be able to go to school & tell my friends that my mom was graduating from college! My brother and I were SO proud of her. I’m sure your kids will be just as proud of you!
Our daughter is in the process of getting her teaching credentials to be a Junior High Math teacher.
It’s what she wanted to do.
(Junior High kids can be such a mess.)
I can tell you it’s a lot of work, but she’s loving it!
Congratulations and best of luck! Anybody who is as excited as you are is going to be a great teacher! Even on a Friday afternoon at 3:14 P.M., I love my second graders and my career. Teachers rock.
