Well, we’re a maybe but I’ll toss in my suggestions anyway.

Jack’s Cannery Bar **(near Fisherman’s Wharf )- websiteyelp
The place is large and has been pretty much empty every time I’ve been there. It’s near public transit (Muni/Street car/Cable car, though not BART) and the parking is pretty easy in that area.
Oh, and since it’s been basically empty every time I’ve been there, it’s been quiet. Much, MUCH more quiet than The Chieftan.
85 beers on tap, though honestly, only a handful are even worth trying or drinking. I’m not sure about the mixed drinks. I think I had a Long Island Iced Tea there once and was less than thrilled with it. Not sure about their margaritas.
Actually, the classic “bridge and tunnel” of the SF Bay Area is the Bay Bridge and the Caldecott Tunnel; folk from Concord, Pleasant Hill, and Walnut Creek come to the City when they think they’re too cool for Spin Ultra.
It’s usually just because those are convenient places with a lot of seating and no need to make reservations for a group of uncertain size. I’m not much of a drinker, but I’ve found that some of the best places in terms of food and atmosphere are the bar & grill places, at least in the Bay Area.
People who live in Manhattan always bitch about the knuckle-dragging trogdolytes who inundate Manhattan every weekend from the other boroughs or New Jersey via the bridges and tunnels, so us San Franciscans decided to do the same for our own trogdolytes*.
Damn, psycat, you’re a bridge-and-tunneler twice over!
*-Lack of bridge/tunnel notwithstanding, San Mateans are not exempt.
Phew, I guess I’m in the clear then, since I just drive up the peninsula, no bridges involved. But that doesn’t make sense, since lobster would be going in the opposite direction as the troglodytes, unless you’re claiming that Palo Alto is a more hip and happening place than San Francisco…in which case, thanks!
