Festival of the Dope Persuasion (Bay Area) Nov. 3rd

Alright team, planning stages.

Dates:
October 20
October 27
November 3
November 10

Places:
Lefty O’Douls (big lots of seating and kinda fun)- union square
Phoenix - Mission
Mr. Smiths- SOMA

I’d be interested in somewhere that has margaritas maybe. discuss.

I’m up for it. November works better for me.

Here’s links to all the places lobster mentioned:

Lefty O’Doul’s
Phoenix Irish Bar
Mr. Smith’s

Looking 'em over, I’m favoring Lefty O’Doul’s or Mr. Smith’s, just because of easy access to the CalTrain station for us peninsula folk. Lefty’s looks like the better option for a social event in terms of atmosphere and seating, but I haven’t been to any of these so I can’t speak from experience.

Any of those dates works well for me.

EDIT: For people driving, do you have any idea about parking situations for those places, lobstermobster?

Oh shit I havent driven a car in many many moons. I have absolutely no idea. sorry guys. Lefty O’Douls isn’t the hippest place in the world but its got a lot of room and you can treat it like a bar or like a restaurant. Mr. Smiths is much hipper but no food there.

I vote against the 27th because I’m going to a concert, and against Mr. Smith’s because I like food and I’m much too hip. And by “hip” I mean “nerd”.

As for parking, well it’s San Francisco. Union Square has several garages but they’re kind of expensive. Same goes for the Civic Center area where Mr. Smith’s is. I don’t know about the area where Phoenix is, but parking in the Mission tends to be sparser. All these places are closeish to Bart though.

I’ve only lived here a year so I strongly urge you guys to suggest some venues as well

I’d like to point out that San Jose has lots of free parking on nights and weekends.

All the venues I have experience with are in the Palo Alto/Menlo Park/Mountain View area. Parking is free everywhere here, and some are pretty close to the CalTrain stations. If people would be willing to travel down here, I’ll come up with some possibilities.

I guess it just depends on how many people who are interested are in SF proper, rather than the rest of the Bay Area. It would be kind of stupid to have 90% of the attendees travel an hour away, if that ends up being the case.

You guys are welcome to do whatever you want but I do not leave San Francisco as a rule. If its more convenient for everyone else I’ll sit this one out.

I may regret this but…
Why is that, dear?

I’d be much, much, much more likely to attend somewhere in the city than not in the city. of course, that’s cause i live there.

I’d rather have something on the Peninsula than in San Francisco, although San Jose proper is fine with me, too.

It hasn’t been that long since the last BayDope, but I am SO ready for the next one. I’m in SF, but if we end up somewhere on the peninsula, I’ll be happy to give someone (or somethree, or somefour, if they’re skinny) a ride (I drive a Civic). Bear in mind, though, the traffic WILL be a bitch (That’s less of a problem if I carry only one passenger, on my motorcycle).

If I’m not on call on the given day, I will be there. I might need to use public transit or hit somebody up for a ride…my car might blow up between now and then (to be discussed in a future Pit thread).

I don’t make the rules I just follow them. I think I just have the San Francisco equivalent of fearing anything that seems too “bridge and tunnel” I guess here its just “bridge and bridge”

I’m down for any of those dates except the 27th. And I vote for meeting in the city, but that’s not a deal-breaker for me.

I vote for the City, but not Mr. Smith’s on a Saturday.

BART is a tunnel.

okay this is a lot of blah blah blah. Post your favorite date (doesn’t have to be one I mentioned) and favorite location and bold them. We need to cut the foreplay here

Not only is there the BART Transbay Tube (as Troy McClure SF noted), but anyone coming from the East Bay into SF via the Bay Bridge goes through the Yerba Buena Tunnel, and most people coming from Marin over the Golden Gate Bridge will have passed through the Waldo Tunnel on 101.

There are a few other road tunnels in the Bay Area, but the above are certainly enough to justify your usage of “bridge and tunnel”.

[When I lived in SF, I’d sometimes go weeks on end without leaving the City, so I quite understand your reluctance…]

I’m down with something in SF on the 3rd. I’m on call the other weekends(except the 27th, but that looks bad for many people). So, I say make it on the third, in SF!
