Field your all-time most-hated MLB team

I mentioned him in my list, and for the precise reason you just referred to.

Ah, you’re jealous. That makes sense.

Because there’s not much about Jeter to put him on your most-hated list otherwise. I’m a Red Sox fan (you are too, right?) and he killed us often enough. But it’s because he was good, not because he was a dirty player or anything.

OF: Barry Bonds, Ty Cobb, Ted Williams
1B: Chick Gandil
2B: Rogers Hornsby
3B: Ken Caminiti
SS: Alex Rodriguez
C: A. J. Piersynzki
SP: Juan Marichal, Roger Clemens, Curt Schilling, Jim Bouton
RP: Steve Howe
DH: Reggie Jackson

Bench: Darryl Strawberry, Chuck Knoblauch, Albert Belle, Hal Chase

Manager: John J McGraw
Bench Coaches: Larry Bowa, Earl Williams
GM: Larry Lucchino
Owner: Charles Comiskey

Telemark: Yup, proud member of the Nation. Jeter’s fame derives almost exclusively from being a Yankee during a good run in team history.

Before I posted this, I did an Internet search using the search terms “Pete Rose Asshole”. That pointed me towards this old thread:

Sure, that and being pretty damn good for 20 seasons. He would have been a star on any team, and probably had a Hall of Fame career as well. Regardless, that might be reasons to envy him but not to hate him.

Alex Rodriguez, Jose Canseco (even for non-steroids reasons), Ty Cobb, and a bunch of Yankees.

Jeter was probably chosen because he is a non-catty Taylor Swift or less douchey John Mayer. And A Rod is worse. I don’t hate Jeter per se, except for the above reason.

This makes as much sense as attributing all of Big Papi’s success to steroids.

The 1996 NY Yankees.

Many people do. I firmly believe he used part of his first big contract hiring a competent chemist.

Hatred doesn’t have to make sense. It’s even purer, cleaner, and more righteous if it doesn’t make sense.

Well, I have to give you that one.

My list begins and ends with Rafael Palmiero. Even before it turned out he lied to Congress, he was a giant asshole in a dozen ways.

Anyone else given a Gold Glove for a position they didn’t really play would have said “thank you, but I humbly decline the award, as there is obviously some mistake.” Palmiero announced he deserved it because he should have gotten other Gold Gloves in previous years but the voters had the nerve to select someone else.

No, hatred doesn’t have to make sense. MOST of the guys on my list have said or done things to make me hate them.

But Carlton Fisk? I have absolutely no good reason to hate him. He was a great catcher and SEEMS like a perfectly good guy.

Since I hate him soleley for embodying the Red Sox in my mind, I can’t very well complain when Red Sox fans loathe Derek Jeter for no particular reason. He personifies the Yankees to them. Of COURSE they’re gonna hate him!

But Jeter also gets a lot of irrational love, so for him, it evens out.
