Fight or Flight (Video Link Included)

If you were in this situation what would be the first thing on your mind; **to get away as quick as possible ** or "how can I hurt or kill this guy?"
I’m into guns that much but I doubt the guy would still be alive if the driver had a gun, I’m pretty sure I would have shot the guy if not in the head atleast in his balls.
If I was in the car behind the PT cruiser I think I would have tried to crush the guys legs when he got in between the 2 cars.
What would your first reaction be in that situation, Fight or Flight?

Believe it or not, I’ve actually been in a similar situation twice, both times as a passenger.

The first time was when I was 15 and it was about 50 yards from my house. My dad (6’2", 230lbs, muscular, former USMC) came out and started running towards the guy yelling and the guy almost shit his pants and took off. The crazy guy had reached in and wrapped the seatbelt around the driver’s neck and was choking him, and I was looking around for something to hit him with.

The second time was at a gas station. The guy surely must’ve broken his hand when he swung at the driver and accidentally hit the molding where the top of the door meets the body of the car ('86 RX-7, I imagine that peice was steel.) My friend then ran over his foot and took off laughing (this dude was at least as crazy as the guy that attacked us.) It happened so fast I really didn’t have any time to react or have any feelings about it.

Both instances were unprovoked.

This video has been a topic of discussion on one of my gun owner forums for several days, my take is:
Aggressively coming towards me with a potentially deadly weapon constitutes (in my mind) a danger to my life and would be met with an armed response, if I was in the next lane (or close by) when he went after the drivers window I would be concerned enough to come to the aid of the person being threatened. If this video was not staged (a big if) I would feel a duty to protect society from this Shithead.

Unclviny

I would have driven off with little regard for his safety to get my bearings. Then I’d probably come back with a pipe.

That guys’s behind me smashing out my back window? Put it in reverse and floor it. See how gangsta he is with 3000 pounds of car on top of him.

Yep, run his ass over. Mine is 4200lbs.

My guess is that I’d put it into gear and start moving, forward and back if that’s the only option. I probably wouldn’t think about trying to harm him as long as I could keep moving and stay out of his grasp. If he actually broke a window, then I would probably be responding to a personal attack and think in those terms. But mostly it would be my inclination to get away, I suppose, because that is the quickest and least legally dangerous response. If he were actually attacking me or someone in the car, as opposed to the car, I’d still just try to get away. He’s not in a seatbelt, so even if he managed to enter the car, he’d be in serious jeopardy compared to me.

In reality, I’d probably sit and wait for the light to turn green because I’m an idiot.

Yeah, not to mention that it’s a whole lot easier explaining to the constabulary that:

“Gosh, officer, I was just rying to get away. I must have run him over by mistake. I was so *frightened * for my life, officer. [wring hands, sob, bat eyelashes if possible] What’s that? Why did I run him over twice? Oh well, when I hit him the first time, I was all worried that my car might be on top of him, and that could really *hurt * him, so I moved out of the way. I didn’t want to hurt him, just make him stop”"

as opposed to:

“I determined that he was an immediate and serious threat to my life and to the occupants of my car, so I exited the vehicle, drew my concealed weapon, pointed it at him, and told him to stop or I would shoot. When he charged me with an inarticulate cry of rage and brandishing a metal weapon, I opened fire until he was neutralised.”

I suspect that the first one might have the cop comforting you, and saying something like “there, there, it’s all over now, he can’t hurt you anymore” whereas the second response might have the officer wondering if you escalated the conflict by getting out of the car, and if you failed in your “duty to retreat” when you were out, and thinking about arresting you and letting the DA figure it out…

Of course this is all assuming you’re in the states, where you can carry a firearm in your car, as opposed to here in country of courtesy, where even pepper spray is deemed too dangerous a weapon for the untrained masses to defend themselves with.

But I could still run him over though… :stuck_out_tongue:

First reaction would be flight, of course. Didn’t look like an option for a while for that person, who could have very easily been killed. She was lucky. The instant he stepped up to the driver’s side window swinging a crowbar with no way for me to get away would have been the time I started pulling the trigger until he could no longer hurt or kill me.

Hmmmm. . . If I was in that situation I think I would have slashed the tires first so the car couldn’t drive away. And then I’d start bashing the car up.

I’m wondering why the car ahead of the blue one didn’t get out of the way? Couldn’t the driver see or hear what was going on?

Did anybody understand whatthe crazy guy was talking about in the intro to the video? I only got every third word or so.

I want to change my answer.

I would rather let my Trunk Monkey handle it.

I can’t even watch.

:kills her computer:

But, in any situation, I’m going to retreat if I have the opportunity. If not, bye bye bad guy!

Wow! I mean, wow! No offence, but you must have a huuuuuuuuuge ass!

As far as I can tell…“Gronk tough! Gronk SMASH!

I probably would have just tried to get away. (I’d probably be to shocked and frightened to do anything else—maybe it’d be different if I actually owned a gun and had trained with it, but I simply don’t know) However, if someone I loved was in the car with me, I might have tried to run him over.

And if I were on a jury, I know I wouldn’t vote to send someone to jail for killing that guy, in that situation.

Yea. I’m not going to transcript it all out here, but yea, I understood everything he said. You’re not missing anything. Basically he says he’s been gangbanging on that corner for 10 years, selling drugs, etc., nobody can get him off that corner, not even metro (I assume the cops?) and he’d take the camera guy’s camera if he felt like it.

I’m pretty sure the video is real. I grew up in a not-always-so-nice area and I knew and encountered a lot of people like this guy (see my first post in this thread), and I even had a few friends (I know, I know, sue me) that weren’t all that different from him. I get a very “real” vibe off this guy (don’t take that as me saying something good about him; I think he’s a piece of shit that needs some serious counseling on how to operate in society and maybe a nice swift kick in the ass.) I also noticed after several viewings that a woman can be heard screaming “Call the police!” right after he starts his rampage. Until further evidence surfaces (which must be out there, since it doesn’t seem like the camera wasn’t on before the video starts and it doesn’t look like it was turned off at the end - could this be part of another Bumfightsesque “documentary”?), I will assume that this video is “real”.

By the way, does anybody know what city this is in? I kept thinking I was seeing the arch behind the general store, leading me to believe that it was St. Louis. Then I noticed, at the end of the video, you can see another arch off in the opposite direction, leading me to believe that this must have taken place in the most crime-ridden city in the universe…Double St. Louis.

OK, then what I thought I heard was actually what I heard. What my ears were telling me just sounded so stupid that I had a hard time believing that anybody would talk like that.

Did the blue car get picked randomly, or was there a particular reason for the attack on that car, other than dog-like pissing on territory?

Could someone describe the video, or provide an alternate link?

ebaumsworld is off limits here, and whatever you’re talking about sounds interesting.

I seriously doubt that anyone here would have the presence of mind to run him over deliberately (although they might do so accidently). Assuming it’s real, the real world scenario is that if someone (with absolutely no warning and out of the blue) starts smashing your car windows you will be stunned, shocked and surprised, and possibly terrified, and your inclination will be to beat it out of there.

Now if you had some warning he was approaching you, and a few seconds to formulate action plans, that’s an entirely different matter.

Trunk, I can email it.
