Fighting Ignorants (D&D setup thread)

I was just thinking about it and I’d like to trade out my hammer for a one handed ax. The priest has pretty much the same weapons and better armor so I at least want to be able to lick the blood off of my blade after I kill something.

Besides that the realistic group looks like its going to be tons of fun. At least until we see something worse then a rat.

You kidding? Most of the players gave themselves more-than-realistic stats. Go check out the thread that spawned this and you’ll see all the arguments regarding that.

No. I’m on the higher spectrum of “average,” which is 11.

Barely. If we assume that these are results from rolling 3d6, average lies at 10.5. 11 is basically right at the top of the bell curve.

10.5 is an impossible number to get on 3d6. Thus 10 is the bottom spectrum of average and 11 is the upper spectrum.

Looking up from his mug and returning from deep in thought, Wolverine glances around the tavern. He notices an adventuring party has formed and in typical fashion he has been too slow to join.

“Guess I’ll just have to wait until someone dies.”

Merging my stated stats from that thread with the other websites:
Str: 11
Dex: 8
Con: 12
Int: 14
Wis: 15
Chr: 9

Class: Cleric (I have attended seminary even though I’m a business teacher now.)
Alignment: Neutral Good

It puts you between the 51st and 62 percentile. If that’s what you’re shooting for, then I withdraw any objection.

So uh. How are we going to play?

“AClockworkMelon, it’s your turn now.
ACM?
Hello?
Oh well, it’s appleciders’ turn.
Apple?
Hello?”

Just curious.

There have been a couple of other role playing games we’ve done. Some have been more successful then others I’ll see if I can dig up some links but I played in a viking themed one that kind of fizzled but there was a Lord of the Rings themed one that ran for a long time. We also had one more recently that was a short game but I don’t remember what the theme was even though I played in it.

As far as the more then realistic stats, I read the debate but I can believe we’re above average her on intelligence heck I’ve never scored under the 90th percentile on a standardized test and there are lots of thread I feel like a moron in. With the physical stats there are only two of us that are claiming above average which doesn’t seem too far of for some internet nerds. I looked at my stats based on the percentiles listed in the original thread and I’m pretty comfortable with where I fall. I’ll be more comfortable in 2 months when I’m 10% body fat and have run a half marathon but the other stats are pretty close for me.

Here are some links to the pasts games. There were a ton for the LoTR game so I just grabbed the setup thread since I think it contains links to the others. Also here is the viking game and the Harnic (the one I couldn’t remember the theme)one. The LoTR is really the best this could go but the others should give you an idea.

The LOTR one is still running; it moved off-board so that they can post pictures; maps and the like.

Damn, that’s impressive. How long has it been going? I didn’t bother to check the date of the OP in the setup thread.

I guess it’s been right around two years now. Wow. I’ve done one other D&D-style thing that went on for two years, and that one was pretty stop-and-start by the end. Hell of a lot of fun, though, and something that would work well on these boards should someone have the gumption to start one.

Well, gee, guys. Now I’m hoping this game is successful. Sounds like fun.

My priest of pasta shall never leave a chef behind!

Alright. My wizard shall be named Ishtar, and he’s a bit of a pudgy fellow, but apparently talkative. Probably slightly neurotic if we’re going to be realistic. And has a higher calling- the learn the art of poisons and alchemy!

Though why he has mountain climbing equipment. He has no idea, but it was just laying there on the side of the road, so why not? Perhaps he can sell it for something more useful. (The Club and Piton)- perhaps a nice herbal bag or such would be useful. Hmmmm… and so he loses himself in thought while he waits for the adventure to begin.
He shall prepare charm person for today, and sighs at the fact that he’s learned “Erase” as a magic spell. Talk about useless indeed. So be it.

(also, what are the capabilities of my Message- I looked around and didn’t find a consistent answer on what that one does).

You misspelled it. It’s “massage.” I’ll take two castings of that spell, please.

Okay, you’re trained in two-handed sword but are too short of cash to own one for now.

Swap out the hammer for a hand axe, which can also be thrown? (That’s your only ranged option for now.)

From what you know about the FI, it is likely you don’t have long to wait.

You can point at someone within 70 yards and murmur a message to them. They hear it at conversational volume and can reply if there is time - you have 36 seconds between you. As to the mountaineering equipment, there is the idea that dungeoneering sometimes involves going caving, and it can’t hurt to be prepared! Erase lacks punch, except for those odd times when you really want to rub something out without touching it, but I’m guessing your teacher was quietly despairing of ever passing you by then…

Ooh, this looks like fun- is there still room in the party for anybody? If not, I’d love to be exiled to the Tavern waiting list.

Fair 'nuff.

Come join me at the table as we await to hear the wondrous tales of the Fighting Ignorants. Would you care for a round of the beverage of your choice? My treat.

Perhaps we could discuss the theological implications of the Grand Master Adams as noted in the second book… (make saving throw to keep from falling asleep). :stuck_out_tongue:
