Fighting Ignorants (D&D setup thread)

Two years and one month. We’re in our seventh adventure, and are now over on Mellophant.com. What Exit? has been doing a great job as our DM. Here’s the current thread, with links to the earlier adventures: http://www.mellophant.com/forums/showthread.php?t=10169

Sorry, 1st Ed bards are way out of reach with those stats, and your lack of DEX would make you a very indifferent thief (nearest equivalent to rogue). Too bad you’re too weak for a fighter too, your CON score would come in useful there. Looks like yet another weedy wizard, albeit a healthy one. You’ll find the other alternates mulling over their beer in that direction –>.

Meanwhile:
Hoopy Frood, you have:

Dagger x3 ROF 2 (if thrown), damage 1-4 (1-3 vs large)
Backpack
Clothing
Belt pouches x2
Hooded lantern
Oil x3
Tinder box
Rations 1 week
Wineskin, 1 pt watered wine
3 g.p. pocket money
Leather-bound spellbook with
-Sleep
-Friends
-Magic Missile
You can prepare and cast one of the above per day.

As I’ve not heard back from Dave Hartwick, he returns to the bench and is replaced by Wolverine, with:

Splint mail, small shield, small helmet AC3
Mace, 2-7 damage (1-6 vs large)
Hammer ROF 1, 2-5 damage (1-4 if thrown)
Iron holy symbol
Backpack
Wineskin, 1 pint unmixed wine
Iron rations 1 week
Tinder box
20 torches
10 g.p. pocket money

You have the same spell ability as AClockworkMelon, link, but because of your high Wisdom you have no chance of spell failure and can cast three spells per day - either three different spells or multiple castings of the same spell, whichever you pick. Also your Wisdom gives you a +1 resistance bonus against charm-type magic. You can turn undead as well.

And we’re off.

-bumped to keep track of spells-

Ishtar successfully learns Magic Missile.

Frodo fails to learn magic missile. You are now unable to learn this until you somehow increase your INT. You can still use magic items or scrolls that cast this spell, though. (Blame random.org)

WoOt!

Next time I’ll try to learn Sleep. But for now maybe I’ll stick to see what’s going on.

I think we’re mixing threads, unless this one is for direct DM talk maybe?

I’m pretty sure Mala is keeping talk regarding spells here because this is the thread where all our stats are.

Pretty much, I’m just using this thread mostly for me as a player to hash out the nit picky stuff, though i’ll put pertinent info on the main thread (ie: what spell’s i’ve prepared and such).

But out of game commentary will probably go here for me.

Religion and the People of the Mountains: Some worshipped the Norse deities or (as at Sullwasser) a local godling of their own preferring. Most however worshipped some aspect of Nature and did not think it proper to give names to gods. Their prayers seemed to go answered anyway. There is lively theological debate in some quarters as to why this is so. Two of the most popular theories are that “When you offer a prayer to the Moon, you offer it to the god of the Moon whether you realize it or not” and that “When you worship the god of the Moon, you show devotion to the greater principle behind the idea of the god, and that is what counts”. Since both these theories, and others besides, are supported by the evidence of miracles, in that clerical spells are granted in either case, the debate is by no means settled.

On the other hand, anyone professing a belief in Thor and then acting in a manner that Thor does not approve of, for example, tends to reap negative repercussions.

I like that. It has a very naturalistic approach. I will adopt said phrasing in the future. My religious stance will be the one about worshiping weather, specifically rain. Rain is very necessary for sustaining life but also a danger with flash floods. I could see worshiping something that gives and takes away. I might play lip service to some of the People that worship Thor, but only in a cursory way. I find it strange that people anthropomorphize something as wild and wonderful as rain.

Honestly, in real life I have a tendency to do that w/ Rain. If it’s raining during the day, especially when the sun is still shining, I tend to think those days are my lucky days and just naturally tend to brighten up.

 one of those weird quirks i have.

I on my phone this week since I’m in a school. I’ll still be reading along but my posting will be less and filled with spelling errors.

Fair enough. (And I should have mentioned, of course, that Thor is just the guy to put the “percussion” into “repercussions”. )

Sorry people, have been out this evening and it is now early to bed for me - hope to feel better tomorrow. :frowning:

…still ill…

Roll a constitution check!

Get well soon!

Thanks! Made my CON checks, just need to get my sleep cycle re-synched and I’ll be back in harness. Thank you for waiting.
