In the early nineties, it was all I would eat at McDoinalds, if McDonalds was my only option. (Is that an endorsement? I’m not sure.)
Not as bad as a Big Mac, Quarter Pounder, or “Hamburger,” anyway. The Filet-o-fish at least doesn’t seem like a sad parody of something that ought to be better. (Though even then I could never bring myself to ask for one by it’s trade name - it’s just too goddamned silly. “I’ll have a fish sandwich.”)
One of the best meals I ever ate was a Filet-o-Fish and fries at the McDonald’s in Algeciras, Spain after 4 months of eating nothing but Spanish food. Mmm, good old American-flavored grease!
This should move to QD. A Pre-V-II part of me understands this. Few people today understand Penance as the Mortification of the Flesh. Eating crab or lobster instead of steak is hardly mortifying.
I patronize MickeyD’s so rarely I usually go with my default order of a Big Mac and a Royale w/cheese. But I do enjoy tossing down a FoF or two with a large order of fries and frosty beverage every year or two. And then I’m good.
I can’t believe someone gave my exact answer about the FoF. I was even getting a craving while reading the thread. But I’d probably get sick if I ate one now.
I don’t have them as often as the MacDonalds version but it was pretty good (the gross looking image in a previous post notwithstanding). At the very least it’s bigger than the FO’F.
Another reason I eat it is because it doesn’t upset my stomach, so I can see Alice’s point. The processing of food actually makes it more easily and rapidly digestible, and I think the filet-o-fish is probably one of the most easily digestible offerings there is.
Meh. It’s too much food for one sitting for me, but I’m sure it’s reasonably tasty. Bacon, cheese, fried chicken…what’s not to love? The only really notable thing about this sandwich is that it lacks a bun.
On the rare occasion that we get McD’s, the only thing my usually not-picky 7 year old son will eat is a Filet O Fish with no cheese or tartar sauce. He thinks a “giant fish stick” in a bun is the best thing ever. They are just ‘meh’ for me.
