It was reported on the American morning news shows but the ethnicity of the attackers was not mentioned at all. The nuances of such things tend to escape the newscasters here.
The BBC does have it. I also heard it on the 7am news bulletin on BBC Radio 4.

A disgrace. I hope the French people finally get worked up enough to picket the bigots in their midst, and that every major French Islamic leader speaks up.
I’m frequently mistaken for a woman (actually, the only thing written on my profile here is that’s I’m a man), but indeed I’m male.
May I ask on which site we would have met? Your nickname doesn’t ring a bell, but then, I’ve a hard time remembering nicknames (or even real names, for that matter).
It’s a low crime - and the perpetrators deserve everybody’s disgust. In the best of cases I’d put muggers in with the lower life forms, but mugging somebody with a baby, well, words fail me… As for the people who did nothing - well I can’t say they earned any respect, but it might be worth actually putting yourself in their shoes for a second - six knife wielding assholes in a train - maybe the other passengers had their own children to worry about, fear and inertia may have had more to do with their inaction than indifference.
Last but not least, all the assholes who’ve recuperated this event to support their own agendas deserve a special little pitting of their own - politicians, jewish lobbyists, muslim lobbyists, media etc.
I’m mystified as to why everyone is so ready to frame this despicable crime as a political event. These 6 guys were muggers, the woman wasn’t a jew. The subject only came up once the crime was already underway, and frankly I don’t see how any parisian could think that an address in the 16th made it likely this woman was a jew (maybe marais or 19th, et encore…), or even that a “rich” woman would be riding the RER D.
I imagine the muggers were simply using “jew” as an insult, part of their play, much as they might have called a man a “queer”.
Personally I’m fucking tired of divisive politics, whoever it comes from, and whatever their agenda. These six fuckwads attacked, humiliated and terrorized a fellow human beings, and endangered a baby, and that’s all I need to know - all the creeps who are tring to make political hay out of this also deserve a hearty “Fuck You !”.
I used to post in the pub of a europe backpacking site and I remember your username and the fact that everyone used to think you were female way back then. In fact, I remember you steaming up a thread on “Are you more submissive or dominant” when it suddenly hit me that you were a guy.

When racist young men deface graves in France, somehow I don’t think it’s primarily the fault of the American president. They have families, and neighborhoods, and mosques, and countries (both home and adopted). It is only through the failure of all of those influences that these sort of things are born.

There were 135 physical acts (vandalism, arson, assault, and attacks or attempted attacks) against Jews in France in the first half of 2004, compared to 127 for all of 2003, according to the statistics.
In case anyone missed it, there have been anti-antisemitism protests all over France, prompted by this story.
The veracity or otherwise will take some time to prove, but it’s looking a bit fishy (see my link).
I recon the French police could catch a bunch of those cowardly bastards real quick if they dressed up an undercover cop in a Jewish outfit and followed him around.
