I just read it today. Apparently, Square announced plans to rerelease updated versions of every Final Fantasy game that they’ve made so far (at least in the main series–the Final Fantasy Adventure series and Mystic Quest seem to be relegated to history). Most importantly for me, the Playstation series (7, 8, and 9) will be updated to be PS2 games, which is gonna make them really cool–I’m totally sold on the voice acting after playing through FFX.
The other six will be released for handheld systems. The 8-bit games (1, 2, and 3) will be released for the Wonderswan color. I don’t know what that is, but I might consider getting one now. The SNES games(4, 5, and 6) have not had a new platform set.
This is wonderful news for fans of the series, and for RPG’ers everywhere. These are truly great games, and worth playing by any fan of the genre.

any word on if they are going to change the story or look of 7, 8, or 9? cause, IMHO, 8 and 9 really werent that great, story-wise
I expect that they’ll leave the stories intact. I dunno, I thought 8 was kinda cheesy, but overall I liked the story. However, they’re probably going to make them more like FFX (ideally with the voices). I mean, they have to do something, cause those are all PSX games; they’ll play on the PS2 as-is.
i thought 8 had the weakest of the final fantasy stores, but i only played it through once so i shouln’t judge.
Now all we need is Final Fantasy Tactics 2 and we’ll be set!
I tried FFT, but the added strategy of moving around during combat was a little much for me. Granted, I didn’t play it very long–I probably owe it another chance. But I’ve gotten to be pretty good at the FF style of combat (hold down the button until the other guys are dead), so it’s a little odd going to something with more detail.
They just fear, and rightly so, the coming of Sakura Taisen.
