For those that haven’t heard, Squaresoft will be bringing some games to the GameCube and Gameboy Advance. There isn’t much to report so far concerning which games will be coming to the systems but the fact they’re even speaking to each other is phenomenal.
Square and Nintendo split ways in the mid-ninties when Square took it Final Fantasy series starting with VII to the Playstation. Since then, no Square product has been released on any Nintendo systems. There was hard feelings and hurtful things said by both parties.
But, now, their ways have been mended and are joining forces again. PlayStation2 will still recieve the bulk of Squaresoft games including Final Fantasy but Nintendo will gain some games in their softest area RPGs.
I don’t own a GC or PS2 but I do own a GBA. To me this is fantastic news because some of the best games ever may be imported to the GBA such as FF Tactics or FF V and VI. Hopefully, even the original one. Final Fantasy for the NES is one of my favorite games of all time. I played that game through at least 5 times through.
I think the most surprising thing about this announcement is that it came before the head of Nintendo (Yamauchi? not too sure), stepped down. As I recall, he was the one who adamantly refused Square’s offers to develop for the GC and GBA in the past. If this news hadn’t been carried by practically every video game news source out there, I never would have believed it possible. Hopefully, it isn’t too late to get FFX onto GC. Also, I can just imagine all the wonderful re-releases for GBA that Square could port over. The Final Fantasy Series, Chrono Trigger, and the best SNES Rpg of them all, Earthbound! Bliss!
Combine this news with an announcement that Jet Set Radio Future would no longer be Xbox exclusive, and I wouldn’t have a reason to leave my house for months.
Ahh, Square and the big N together again… how beautiful. The very notion that FFTactics would end up on GBA gives me an erection.
Best…RPG/Strategy…Ever
It would also be interesting to see if FFX or FFXI could make it over. I have no real plans on picking up a PS2 and I do dearly want to play X, at least.
They are making an EXCLUSIVE game for Nintendo. (BTW, loved Mario RPG) So they said the GameCube game and the GBA game would connect in a very cool way. GBA connecting to GameCube is one thing Cube has BIG on it’s side. That Kirby tilt game is like Super Monkey Ball, only you actually TILT the GBA, and the environment then tilts. If you jerk the GBA up, I think Kirby can jump from the TV on to your GameBoy. Awesome. Think about what FF could do.
Capcom is making like, 5 Resident Evil games exclusive, (I think it’s 5, not sure… one is brand new and one remake of the N64 game, RE0). DAMN! things are looking up for Nintendo. Too bad there’s that Zelda a lot of folk don’t like, and Mario doesn’t LOOK great. Star Fox though, AMAZING… if you look at the new pics the ULTRA realistic fur… something I haven’t seen on a game (I mean the live characters… not just cut scenes or pictures).
Best news I’ve heard in awhile. That Yamauchi was getting to be a pill. I follow the Final Fantasy series wherever it goes. Damn, another couple of hundred bucks down the drain.
