I tried searching for this but I haven’t found what I’m looking for - it’s a little tough to fit into a search box and google is no help at all. Probably because I’m looking for people who had the same (possibly incorrect) thought as I did as I was driving down the road one day…
On the radio in my car came a song…a Boston song…Foreplay I believe.
It immediately made me think of certain FF7 boss battle music. Note for note, but with some instruments left out in the game version. Notably what comes to mind is the battle in the Nibelheim mountains when you get near the end and go through that funny 8 pipe maze thing. Or at the great glacier, when you fight the two headed hot/cold dragon monster thing?
Does anyone else think that Boston’s Foreplay bears an uncanny resemblance to FF7 boss battle music in at certain battles?
If you search on YouTube for “Black Mages”, you can find a lot of the FF music played by a group that Nobuo Uematsu formed to play his compositions in public. Searching for Final Fantasy will also turn up a lot of hits, some of them scenes from the game, some of them of the Black Mages in concert, and some of them by people playing their own versions of the music.
I’m playing one of the Black Mages’ CDs right now, in fact.
Well I know that…in fact I’ve been searching through the library of FF7 music but I can’t find what name was given to the song by the game makers.
I just know that I’ve heard it…and that I can’t find it again, and wanted to know if anyone else had also heard this particular game song. I’m basically just hoping for either “You’re not crazy, I heard a Boston song while playing FF7 too!” or maybe “You’re crazy, that song definitely was not in the game”. Though the latter response would have to be coming from multiple sources in order to persuade me.
That song is definitely not in the game. I know the part you’re talking about and I see where could get that idea, but I’m listening to both right now and they don’t sound alike to me. When you play scales on a synthesizer, it’s going to come out similar no matter what you do. But they’re not the same scales.
OK, just went to listen to Foreplay on YT… It reminds me of Those Who Fight Further/Still More Fighting (the title given on my copy of Black Mages/The title on my copy of the FFVII OST).
