Final Fantasy

This is going to sound pretty dumb but how do you begin playing final fantasy online? Is there a website? (yes, I have tryed www.thefinalfantasy.com but it didn’t work.) Help please!!

I believe so far Final Fantasy XI has only been released in Japan so far. That’s the one that’s on-line. That is the one you’re talking about right?

Some of my friends play it online at school though. I could be mistaken but I don’t live in Japan. (not trying to be mena or snotty)

So you seriously don’t know if you live in Japan???

Anyway, AFAIK, the only online Final Fantasy is Final Fantasy XI (11). See www.playonline.com

Mayhap they got a copy imported. If you want to play imported games, I believe you need a mod chip installed in your system.

I honestly don’t see how this game is going to take off without capturing the flavor and magic of the other Final Fantasy games.
Will there be annoying random attacks every three minutes? Will the ratio of FMV to actual gameplay remain 10 to 1? Will there even be any FMV in this version??? Dear god man, I don’t want to play games I want to watch them!

The way I hear it, there’s a very good chance that that is the only way we’ll be able to play FF XI. I’ve heard it’s barely breaking even in Japan.

Better brush up on your Japanese.

Okay, here is how it is working.

  1. There are no random battles. All the battles occur with beasts(or whatever) you can see. You can run away from them if you are fast enough.

  2. There are next to zero FMV’s(none except the opening one).

  3. It is doing terrible in Japan because of the primitive status of Squaresoft’s PlayOnline. Only people with a great modem and great luck can enjoy it. It also takes as long(if not longer) than EverQuest to level up.

  4. I tend to think that it will still get released over here, but in a far more limited way. All online aspects of FF12 have been removed due to the failure of 11.

There is another way to play, but probably not what you’re looking for. There are several PnP (pen and paper) Final Fantasy games online. Lots of play by e-mail games and even chatroom games are run. Unfortuantly, I don’t have my links handy for any of the larger versions of these games, but a quick search on yahoo should help you out.

That’s only if you like a D&D style game, however. The only officialy online FF game is FFXI which is in a very sorry state in Japan. It may or may not come out in the US, though it was due out back when FFX came out and no new date has been set.
