Finished GTA IV (minor spoilers in OP)

Just finished GTA IV. I didn’t know I was at the end, last I looked I was at 50% completion. Major things were happening but I thought maybe it was leading to another “chapter” in the story. I finished the main story line but actually only have 69% completion, I didn’t do a lot of Brucie races or dating/activities, I found them rather cumbersome but I know some lead to special benefits or missions.

Some stats:

Money: $857,000.
Play time: 51 hours (I think that just counts saved play time, if I was just screwing around and got killed or captured I didn’t save.)
Cars stolen: 333
Stars attained: 316
People run down: 461
Miles on foot: 60
Miles by car: 567
Bullets fired: 17,035
Shooting accuracy: 49%

After the credits, which are very long with hundreds of names, the game saves and you’re free to wander and work on 100% completion. Seems there is still some gameplay left after the credits, as I type this I’m getting cell phone calls about what happened.

This game has to be one of the top 5 games I’ve ever played. The actual missions are sort of repetitive, but the production values, gameplay, and the city itself are just amazing. I probably only saw half the city doing the storyline missions, I know in the ending mission I saw plenty of areas I hadn’t seen before.

I knew I was at the end, mostly because I “read ahead” a bit. I also started down the money path, then changed to the revenge path.

The story was pretty well-done. I don’t think the “choices” you have in the game really matter much, which was a little disappointing.

Between the Assassination and Little Jacob missions and Steve’s car thefts, there’s still a bit for me to do. But there is a zero-percent chance I’ll get to 100%. For one thing, it includes all 200 pigeons. I’ve shot every pigeon I’ve encountered in my 50+ hours of play, but that’s only 10. Likewise with the jumps: I’ve only noticed about 10, but I think there are 50 total. Tracking all those down seems too cumbersome.

I’ve been trying to do the jumps because they’re pretty fun. But there’s one in front of your hideout in Alderny that I can’t find a vehicle fast enough to complete. I’ve been told I need a PCJ 900 motorcycle, which is kinda a hassle to find.

Finding all the pigeons has to be very difficult, I don’t know how many virtual square miles the game covers but the cities are just immense.

I’ve made it over the river on a PCJ900 motocycle, but I haven’t been able to stick the landing yet.

I wonder about the choices you guys made. I think the story was pushing the player to make certain choices, and my friends who finished the game made basically the same choices as me. Here are some of my choices:

Killed Playbox X, not Dwayne
Killed the McCreary cop, not Derrick the drug addict
Killed Darko
Revenge mission against Dmitri

I killed Derrick. Afterwards you’re able to call up the cop brother to clear your wanted stars.

I killed Derrick too.

Killed Dwayne instead of PlayboyX. Hard choice, both were pathetic in their own ways. Problem with killing Dwayne is there’s no real benefit like there is with PlayboyX.

I fully expect to re-play this game again, and it’s rare that I finish games at all.

Hmm, wonder what happens if you don’t kill Darko? I kinda figured it would bite me in the ass later.

Some dialogue changes afterwards. Nothing else.

There’s a bike showroom in northern Alderney. I must have dumped a dozen sports cars (Infernus, Turismo & Banshee) into the river before switching to PCJ900.

I have actually achieved 100% game completion. Yay me !!!
The pigeons took me a few days and I had to look up a map to find all of them.
Unfortunately achieving 100% doesn’t get you anything at all.
At least in Vice City you got the t-shirt saying “I finished GTA Vice City and all I got is this stupid t-shirt”.
Here you only get a “Key of the City” achievement.

I spent probably 45 minutes looking for that bike last night. On the plus side, I did find a bunch of places that I hadn’t seen before. Anyway, the bike showroom is across the street from a 4 or 5 story parking garage, which is near that church that you passed doing missions for the mafia guy in northern Alderney (forget his name already!)

Anyway that bike does make the jump near your Alderney hideout, and when you first get the bike don’t forget the jump off the top of the parking garage.

Whenever you find a vehicle you need, like the PCJ900, save it at your savehouse.
If you have one you often see more of them riding around.
Just try and build a collection of a few of these bikes before you start the jumps.
When you only have 1 bike left start looking for replacements.
As soon as you don’t have it anymore you will hardly find any driving around.

Yeah, I try to use the ‘The game likes to repeat available vehicles’ bug to my advantage.
