So, what did you gys think about it? I thought this was the best episode yet. Great character development, great story, lotsa laughs.
I sure hope this series gets a chance to build an audience. It’s worth it.

I liked it…but then, it’s only the second one I’ve seen since the premiere. Baseball wiped out some previous episodes, and I missed one for taping the wrong channel—DOH!
I’m looking forward to learning more about the others on board.
Jayne is rapidly becoming a very interesting character. I think this episode might have tried to create a little permanent character development.
I just hope Fox keeps this show on their air long enough for it to find an audience.
I wouldn’t call it the best yet. I mean, there was Our Mrs. Reynolds. But it was very good. Not only did we get to see some development of Jayne’s character, we got to see more of River. With the size of the cast, it’s probably hard for them to juggle all these characters to give everybody some time in the light.
I thought it was great. Nice to see another side to Jayne, beyond the crude brute with questionable morals.
Also, It was good to see River get some screen time; she was all but absent last episode, and had about two lines in the one before. It was neat to see her developed a little bit; good to see she’s not JUST a Turtured Soul. She’s a Tortured Soul with an interest in evolution. I thought the writing for her was particularly clever; “Eleven. Important number. Prime number. One goes into the house of eleven eleven times, but always comes out one.”
I also love the sweet little sub-plot with Kaylee and Simon. Normally, I’m pretty no-romo, but it’s just so CUTE I can’t help it, I’m pulling for those two.
Not the best so far, but another interesting episode. John Doe was pretty good as well. Being that this is Fox Friday night, I keep waiting for the other shoe to drop.
I agree, but this wasn’t the first time we’ve seen the “softer side of Jayne.” Remember last episode where he was so taken with the rain stick? And how much he loves his “Vera”. He’s just a big kid with his toys.
Yeah, I loved the bit were River was trying to “fix” the Bible. And her being terrified of the preacher’s hair was kind of silly, but funny.
Again, me too.
“No, captain, it’s going well.”(significant glance)
“Ohh!..”
AND it was adorable that Mal let them stay in the bar on account of how “well” it was going. Nice that he’s not enforcing chastity on his crew, just because HE isn’t getting any.
Just remembered that I haven’t posted a prediction for this week yet. Not that anyone cares. But for my own enjoyment, I’ll tell you all what I’ll expect to see this evening:
Hippies. That’s right, hippies. But not the good kind of hippies, the ones that smile benignly and sing folk songs and love everyone, OOOOHH NO. These are Evil Space Hippies. They may look innocent, but don’t be fooled. These hippies are dangerous. They’re sabotaging systems all over the ship, with the help of various organic mind-altering substances. And their demonic influence is working its magic on the crew of Serenity. How shocked we’ll all be when Wash decides to become a nudist!
To quote Steve Irwin: Danger, danger, danger!
Kn(I’ll shut up now)ckers
Kn*ckers Man, I hope you’re not right…I hate Space Hippies! I haven’t seen me any of them Space Hippies since that one episode of Star Trek…shudder
To paraphrase the big-boned one: Space Hippies–they say they want to save the universe, but all they do is smoke Space Pot and smell bad…
It’s funny 'cause it’s true.
On the bright side, I doubt you have much to worry about, after all, when have I EVER been right?
I heard so much about this show being scientifically accurate, but they seem to have artificial gravity?!
Was that ever explained away with a bit of exposition?
No need to explain it. It’s just assumed. How many conversations do you get in regarding the mundane bits of technology that are part of your everyday life?
“You see, Fred, the walls of this house contain copper wiring that carries current. When I flip this ‘switch’, electricity flow to this device we call a ‘lightbulb’…”
It’s just a natural part of their environment. And artificial gravity is certainly not completely outside the realm of the possible.
That’s not an inaccuracy; it’s science fiction. In this case, positing technology that doesn’t exist now, based on discoveries in physics that haven’t been made.
Exposition could consist of this dialogue:
*“Boy, I’m sure glad that Dr. Philbert Cornquist invented artificial gravity, based on the physics discoveries of Dr. Yan Thiu!”
“Say, when did that happen?”
“I forget, but I know it was sometime after 2002!”*
Now, if you prefer your science fiction to not use anything that we don’t know for a fact is possible, then tv is probably not the place to look.
Granted, it would be interesting if they had to rotate Serenity for weight, and if the ship were arranged around a rotational axis, but that would be really expensive to film every week.
I understand that it is science-FICTION.
But i missed the first few episodes, and was just wondering if something had ever been said about it.
I have been impressed with the fact that they remembered that there is no sound in space, and that guns won’t fire without oxygen.

Actually, a normal, modern gun will fire in a vacuum; I was a little puzzled about that, but I was glad when the scene was silent. Also, it’s refreshing to see projectile weapons used in space; not everything has to be a ray-gun.
Tonight’s episode included some interesting flashbacks about how the crew cqme together; I wonder if those scenes were taken from the two-hour pilot that hasn’t been shown yet.
Tonight’s episode was another winner. I loved the idea of putting out the ship’s fire by simply exposing the interior to a vacuum.
It was good. The only fault I found was the shuttles wings unfolding. Maybe Jayne was driving, his physics knowledge fellates with great allacrity.
There are only three more episodes contracted for with Fox.
The pilot is scheduled for December 20th.
They haven’t signed them up for more episodes??? This is one of the best new series I’ve seen in years, therefore, it must be cancelled immediately.
