First it was Monopoly, then it was Crayola-When will this massacre end?

My bet is on one of the mixed color named crayons. In the last two changes in crayon colors, Crayola got rid of some of those. I’m thinking yellow-green or blue-violet. As a collector of Crayola crayons, I hope this means a new color will be added to the mix.

Here ya go.

I notice that Customers who bought this item also bought The Coloring Book for Goths.

Maybe it’s the Mandela affect, but I swear I remember having Burnt Umber in my Crayons (late 1960s). Maybe I’m confusing Raw Umber and Burnt Sienna. Or perhaps Extreme Unction. That went away, too, as if it never existed.

As a kid, the crayon I hated the most was ‘cornflower’. It was a light subtle blue that was too light for drawing lines, and you needed to muscle on a thick waxy layer to get any sort of fill. Waste of a crayon. Sad.

Needs more Vantablack, fulgin, and light black.

Same. I remember all 4 colors in the late 80s or early 90s.

Wait a minute, what happened to Monopoly??

and what about florescent colors?

Yeah what is Dandelion? Never heard of that color!

I LOVED cornflower color!

I grew up in the 80s, and have no recollection of “burnt umber,” which is what impelled me to check. I remember “raw umber,” “raw sienna,” and “burnt sienna,” but not “burnt umber.”

Oops, sorry-got it mixed up with a character I just threw lightning at in the computer game I’m playing.

Anything outside of black, white and ROYGBIV are superfluous - banish them all! The world, like 1950’s print advertising, should be in primary colors.

[sub]No gray areas![/sub]

As Just Asking Questions said, it might be the Mandela effect - a false recognition. I feel like it’s exclusion would’ve been obvious (why not just call it “umber”?), but we could be wrong. I’m not willing to die on that hill.

(For the record, of course Mandela lived, and it was always the BerenSTAIN Bears, as that’s how teachers pronounced it).

To this day, I refer to that particular shade of blue as “cornflower.”

From the story linked in the OP:

how about a dried blood color-“Ultraviolent”?

Personally I’d probably dump white, but I know that would never fly. So since I don’t like yellows, I’m jumping on the “Dandelion” train. All blues-violets-reds should be preserved.

This of course is all pretty high stakes for me, considering I haven’t owned any crayons since 5th grade ;).

Back in the olden days, when wee Dung Beetle and her even wee-er brother settled down to color, we followed this procedure:

Step 1- Spread out coloring books

Step 2- Dump out the crayons

Step 3- Find yellow-green (also known as the ugly crayon) and chuck it into the next room

Only then could masterpieces be produced.

No, that would be sacrilege. Instead, they are going to make the crayons shorter and thinner, using a less dense material and with a hollow core the size of a pencil lead.

They will also be paperless, having no paper wrapper, just the name of the color printed on the side with the same stuff they use to print the m’s and w’s on M&Ms.

Whew. For a second I thought you meant it was going to be another online voting thing. And that would be stupid, as a basic color like red or blue would win, easily.

I don’t think █Dandelion█ will go, unless they replace it with another darker yellow. That’s all it is: a darker yellow that you can actually see on the page. (It has added red, since adding black gets you something closer to █Olive Green█.) Granted, it is basically the same color as █Goldenrod█, but they say they’re replacing it with a new color, not mixing things around. I think the 24-pack needs a dark yellow.

That said, I am going to go look up the colors so I can see which one seems to be a redundancy. That seems to be the pattern from before: colors that already have a similar color around. I think it might even be useful to look at the full set instead of just the 24.

Before doing that, though, the one that jumps out at me is █Green Yellow█ and █Yellow Green█. But I’m hoping it’s neither of them, since they are kinda iconic. Though, admittedly, until I went back and added the colors, I didn’t actually remember which was which.

**After looking at the 24 set, my best guess is Violet Red. **

It doesn’t look like either color in any way, and has the redundancy of Red Violet, which does look like a mixture of the two colors. Plus Violet-Blue has already been on the chopping block, which is also just a light version of Blue-Violet. And there’s already Magenta in the main color set, which seems to be the color Violet Red is going for.

The way I always remember is that it’s adjective noun, like the usual in the English language. So Yellow Green is a green with added yellow, and Green Yellow is a yellow, tinged with green. Same with the other colors.

It’s official. Dandelion is taking an extended vacation. Crayola used the word wanderlust. Now I wait for the new color…

Oh, man. Keith Richards and Mick Jagger are NOT going to take this lying down.

Yes that’s it.

IIRC they have or had a “chartreuse” color, but I think of y-g and g-y as the distinction between the two varieties of the namesake herbal liqueur.
