Yeah, I was 10. Maybe six months after I started my period.
This is going to sound very odd, but the very first time I ever had any kind of sexual feeling, I was just sitting at my desk dropping a paperclip onto the desk top. And for some reason, don’t ask me why, that metallic sound turned me on. Never happened before or since.
But most of what I learned was through books. I had some V.C. Andrews books with very sleazy scenes, and I read my mother’s copy of Our Bodies, Ourselves while she was out of the house (for those men who may not be familiar, Our Bodies, Ourselves was a feminist hippie women’s sexuality book published I believe in the 1970s. They have diagrams of vaginas and anecdotes from women and all kinds of informative stuff. They keep updating it and I hope when my future female child is at that age, I’ll be able to point her in that direction, because it’s an excellent introduction to sexuality and women’s issues in general.) I wrote stories myself and so the books and my own writing drove my fantasies. Still do, I guess.
About a year later I became a born-again fundamentalist Christian and continued to do all these things, of course. Just with a tremendous amount of guilt.
