First Peregrine Falcon egg for Rochester

http://rfalconcam.com/rfc-main/multiView.php

This is the link to the Rochester, N.Y. FalconCam. Beauty laid her first egg today! Archer is the daddy.

I found out about this website through the SDMB, and it has been a wonderful site to go to-like a daily “soap opera” of territory battles (Mariah got hurt in a territory battle last year, and lost the battle this year), mates coming or going or not coming back (Kaver, Mariah’s mate for 7 years, did not come back from his winter migration in 2009), nest box moves, choices, eggs, eyases, fledging, Quest’s travels (Quest was born in 2008 and was fitted with a transmitter and her travels over the Northeastern US and Canada have been posted.

pudytat72 - Did they have a Mariah sighting? I’ve been reading the blog, but I thought so far Mariah’s been MIA. Beauty and Archer seem to have taken her territory, after Beauty nearly killed her last year.

StGermain The last comment I saw about Mariah was back in November 2009 in one of the FalconWatch notes.

mariah has not returned as yet. it is really the end of an era. she is the falcon of rochester and very imprinted on the kodak site. after kaver not showing up last year the group was very concerned for mariah.

archer is kaver and mariah’s grandson through freedom. freedom has one sibling isis, and were kaver and mariah’s first youngin’s together.

beauty is from pittsburgh pa. she and archer have nested on a different building than M&K. Mariah liked the gorge area, beauty seems to be a downtown girl that likes midtown.

Yes, Mariah nested in Rochester for 10 years, an amazing feat in my mind. It is hard to not know what has happened to them. I’m sure I will go into withdrawal when Quest’s transmitter falls off. It has been fun to follow her travels for the last 22 months.

Beauty laid another egg last night. I’m glad that she and Archer picked the nest box with the most cameras! Very cooperative of them.

Beauty laid egg #3 this morning! You go girl! One more egg most likely, maybe more.

Our San Jose peregrines are a little ahead of your Rochester ones… Clara and Esteban Colbert have hatched three eggs, with one more still to go. Cam link here, youtube footage of the eyasses (I love a silly word!) here.

Although peregrines are usually monogamous, Clara has had three mates at this nest site. I can’t wait for the babies to get up and fledge!
