We got it overnight. Several centimetres, it looks like.
I woke up to the sound of my keenly energetic neighbour shovelling his sidewalk and thought « that can’t be good. »

Supposed to get mine in two days.
Now that I no longer work from home, I’m really not looking forward to it.
It’s 80°f in Chicago today, so my money says it snows by or on halloween.
No kidding. It’s simply beautiful out today, mid-70’s and calm.
Weather Dude says it’s gonna be snowing tomorrow/Thursday. Weird.
We got the same. Snow started last night, and we awoke to about three or four inches. I have a keenly energetic neighbour too, and sure enough, he was out shovelling.
It’s supposed to get warmer by the weekend, so the snow will melt, but it is a sign that summer is over.
My weather report says 70’s for the next three days. No sign of snow – oh, wait a minute. Just refreshed that page. Well, maybe, out at the very end of the forecast a week from now:
A chance of rain and snow showers. Partly sunny, with a high near 43. Chance of precipitation is 40%.
IME a week-out forecast like that for this area may turn, by the time we actually get there, into anything from sun all day and 59º, to snow all day and 27º; though the chances are pretty good that there’ll be a bit of drizzle and/or a few snowflakes mixed with some sun and some clouds.
Winter storm warning here, 6-12" after it was 70 the last few days. The shoe was bound to drop.
I’m not gonna say a thing. Enjoy your comfy blanket of white wonderfulness.
Calgary was nuts last night and this morning. I stayed at work until 8 hoping the traffic would settle.
Crowchild trail (a six lane artery) had two buses jackknifed and several cars and trucks beached in various locations and predicaments. One of the buses and a friendly car it had snuggled up to were still blocking traffic in the morning.
We hadn’t booked the vans in for their winter tires yet and one of the guys called me after driving to his first job to announce he was going home and getting off the road.
Was in shorts til Sunday.
Back in the early 80s Indianapolis would get flurries about this time of the year. Now, it’ll be mid-to-late November before we probably see any white stuff.
Yesterday a friend and I were hiking up Mt. Washington (Vancouver Island) and it was absolutely gorgeous out and looked like this:
Today it’s under 6 inches of snow.
Bonus feeding Whiskey Jacks photo:
That’s a cool pic, has the bugger got bands around its legs? Are they accustomed to human contact like that?
Next Sunday.
And – FWIW – I’m formally “against it.”
But that’ll change. It always does.
Yeah they just fly out of the trees and land on your head or hand and they love being fed. They are like that everywhere in Canada when I’ve encountered them. Interestingly, the Steller’s Jays were hanging out with them but refused to land on us or even take anything from our hands. Here’s a picture from a totally different area a couple of years ago:
Yes they banded and studied:
That’s cool. I forget what this thread is about.
Just caught the local weather report. Snow continuing through tonight and tomorrow, tomorrow’s high will be -9C (16F). Snow should end by Thursday. Gradual warming for the rest of the week; should be on the high side of freezing by Sunday.
One day of winter so far, and already I’m tired of it.
I was having coffee with a friend this morning and commented that Saskatchewan drivers are some of the best winter drivers in the world.
In March.
Then the endless golden summer, and they forget about it all and then in Octobre it’s « Whoa! What do we do with all this slippery white stuff again? ». Followed by a crashing sound.
I am so prepared! I actually have my snows on already.
I have to think that’s a lot of it. People don’t want to swap tires before it’s 100% absolutely necessary. Which practically speaking means driving the first 3 or 4 days of snow on summer tires. Oops.
Had our first snow back mid September. But it’s been a beautiful couple of weeks thank god. Our new septic system has been installed. Would have been a lot harder if we where ass deep in snow.
