What’s your best guess(es) for which show(s) will be first to be lying on the floor, and when that culling will be made?
I have personally sworn off of trying to like a new show – especially on the major broadcast networks – out of concern that there may not be another episode, or a whole season’s worth of them.
I stick with the older shows that have survived at least one full season and keep an eye on the buzz for newer stuff.
Thus far I have DVRed several of the new offerings but have yet to watch any until at least Episode Two appears.
How about you? Anything so bad it’ll be gone by October? November at the latest?
*Forever *isn’t doing well in the ratings. I’m trying hard to like it, but it gets annoying because of the similarities to Sherlock. He’s always making these grand observations of deductions.
I have been expecting it t be Scorpion. But being utterly absurdly ridiculous is not necessarily a good enough reason for poor ratings. cf Under The Dome.
I really like Forever, I hope it survives.
I hear that The Mysteries of Laura is the most universally disliked by the Critics, if that means anything.
But Scorpion is right up the comfortable CBS team procedural glide path. CBS has good team procedurals and bad ones, but the common bond is that they run forever.
Hmm, and what do we mean by “first to be canceled”?
if one show starts late Sept and goes for 4 epis, then gets the axe, whilst another premieres late Oct and is cancelled after just one epi, which is first?
And if like NBC, which buys them for 13 epis, but announces that a show is not being renewed, but lets all 13 run out?
I think it means first among September shows, and if none of those get cancelled, the first one that does get cancelled. There’s always one or two that get the ax after one or two episodes though, so I don’t think we’ve got long to wait.
The Mysteries of Laura is really weak. Not sure whether it’s a police show or a comedy. I like Debra Messing, but the show sucks. I literally (and I do mean literally) groaned when I heard some of her lines in the last episode.
What I meant to write is that a lot of people probably watched the first show because of Messing. I don’t think all of those will be back.
Selfie has the best reason in recent years to watch a show, and Pond does a good American, but if it weren’t premiering the day after I’d say it’s gone by Michaelmas.

[li]Selfie - Too topical[/li][li]How To Get Away With Murder - Terrible commercials usually mean a terrible show.[/li][li]The Red Band Society - Yeah…sick kids… That’s what people are looking to watch.[/li][li]Stalker - Looks dull, CBS already has Criminal Minds and they are showing fewer commercials for it each day. None of those are good signs.[/li][/ol]
